Top 16 teams should make the playoffs. No more conferences... it's pointless.

But I like seeing the East struggle. I'ts impossible to give them the "East Coast bias" that way.

I agree no more conferences guys like Noah make the allstar game..... Kevin Johnson was a top 5 pg but since the west was so stacked at pg in the 90s he only made 3x allstar games its BS!

1st, learn how to use the quote button.

I have seen almost every finals game that the Celtics or Lakers played in the 80s, but still a shame that those games are so hard to find.

You do see how you pointing out a handful of players on different teams as the competition for the Lakers with Magic and Kareem and every body else they had on it as weak in comparison, right? You can dog the Heat for a weak East but the Lakers had a very similar weak West.

The West was NOT similarly weak to what the East is now, not even close. Yes, the East was a tougher conference at that time, but there was NEVER a time throughout the entire 80's where the West had only 2 teams with a record over .500.

What's happening in the East right now is an embarrassment to the NBA.

No, no, no. You guys are looking at it all wrong. The West is so easy anyone can win. Heck, there are only 3 teams out there with a losing record. It is so tough to win in the East that only 2 teams have a winning record. Obviously, the East is tougher than the West.

we can start with the "laughingstock" of the east that being NY Knicks -- think 'Melo is over it already after labeling his own team, LOL.

I had no idea they all played on the same team?

Despite still only having heard of 2 of them I most on the different teams, I now think the 80s Lakers suck due to their weak ass conference.

STFU??? Really??? I hope you are joking...

Eastern conference teams ( aside from Miam and Indiana ) are something like 16-65 vs the west... Solid.

the dufus is relying on select old game tapes as he was still coming out of the womb when those great Lakers teams dominated the 80's going up against stiff competition in the west....meantime, his Knicks(aka laughingstock per 'Melo) were 10+ years removed from their last title which now stands at 42 years and rising. That make any fan want to jump ship.

Pretty sad that 51 posts into this thread......I have to be the one who points out that the season was about 15gms deep when this thread was made . Now we're only 17-20gms in.

Let me know the differences between the 2 conferences after game 82.

These things go in cycles. In the 80's, the East was the tougher conference, in 90's it was fairly balanced and now the West is the tougher conference. The only difference is that there wasn't near as much disparity between the 2 conference in the 80's as there is now.

I agree. outside of the bulls in the 90s the NBA was pretty even.

since 2004 the titles are split 5 each between the two conferences. I don't think the disparity that people have been claiming has been there recently. But the last two-three years it has gotten a lot worse. this year it is beyond anything I can remember. this probably means wiggins and parker come to the east next year and the pendulum finally starts to slowly swing back.

:agree: That's pretty much how it happens. Like you though, I can't remember a time where there was this much of a disparity. I had to do a double take when I looked at the Atlantic Division and saw that the first place team is 4 games under .500!!

I doubt it'll be much different. Fewer teams under .500, but I'd bet that there will be at least 2-3 teams that make the Eastern Conference playoffs with sub .500 records. There will be none in the Western Conference.

17-20 games in is a decent barometer considering it's about 25% of the season. Unless there are some blockbuster trades that change some teams fortunes quickly, it's not likely to be much better by the end.
