If our defense doesn't improve, what is the problem?

Honestly I'm not expecting our D front to improve much at all, the secondary will be tough as always, and they'll need to be cause they're going to do most of the tackling. The next year or 2 when our most recent recruits get up to speed and weight, then Ill get my hopes up

The real question is in 3-5 years how is this defense.

Bo gets a freebie this year bc we know the DL is young and new starters in key places so the defense won't get judged hard this years

But down the road when this team is 3-4 years in the system there will be no excuse if we still see 9-4 blowout Losses and typical bo fart games .

Ill give bo 3-5 more years after that no more excuses if weren't a annual top team then a serious talk needs to happen

2014-15 the defense should be legit if not its on coaches. Recruit or coach up one or the other or both.
But if defense sucks both those years then we will be in trouble and bo will feel some heat

Papuchis, els and Kaz have as much if not more to prove than the players. We have the talent. It's their job to prepare and develop that talent. I expect improvement in the big plays allowed dept. Tackling in space was a huge problem. It is a combination of athleticism and sound fundamentals. Missed assignments and poor tackling will reflect coaching. Getting beat to the edge and juked in space will reflect on athleticism.

Kaz has no help that DL is deep but not proven or anything that it should be when we had a guy name suh. I knew we were in trouble when we didn't cash in on that recruiting wise.

The staff has alot to prove these guys are young and are all their player so no more excuse lite them up in practice so they can set fire to opponent on sat.

Bo was naive and lazy in recruiting the first 2-3 years. The last 2 classes have been a LOT better. It will show on the field sooner than later.

I don't think he really had an idea of what it takes to recruit winners here until he started getting whipped. Bo will admit someday that he didn't know what he was doing in terms of recruiting his first couple years. It's an art form. He's starting to figure it out, but we have to stop getting blown out on national television

this pretty much sums it up for me. Other teams with less talent and just as young of defenses manage to get things done at least reasonably well. So I don't give them a couple of years to get it right. Bo's been here 5 years, I shouldn't have to give him another 3 or 4 more years to get this corrected. I might give him a pass this year as long as there aren't any blow outs, but the first time someone puts up 40 on us (assuming our offense doesn't hand them some of those points), I'm calling for his head.

My biggest concern with Bo coming aboard was his recruiting skills, or lack of I should say, you're right however that he and the staff are trying to turn a new leaf on that front, of course not getting fucked up on prime time tv help that front also

Hopefully Bo will improve as our head coach. To get an idea about how good Bo is as a head coach... Last year when Nebraska played OSU and got clobbered, if Bo and Urban swapped teams for that game, it would have been a very close game.

I have a lot of confidence in Coach Kaczenski bringing in the D line talent. Repeat, a lot.

The excuse, the defense is inexperienced. 2015 the defense won't be inexperienced.
