Thick As A Brick was an amazing album. I'd rank it right up there with there amongst the all-time best of prog albums. I haven't heard it in about 20 years, strangely enough (not in it's entirety). Might be a good night to open up some suds and give it a spin again.

The cover was a classic read, too.

No, it's about his choice for playing the flute and Thick as a Brick's reception mostly.

I don't think that anyone else played the flute like he did in rock music. That was amazing.
He must be in his 70's by now - or very close to it.

Nobody else played it like Ian did for sure, but there were other bands who used it. Marshall Tucker Band has some great songs where the flute is featured.

I don't know. It was one of the hardest instruments to learn when I was in band where we had to learn to play 3 other instruments other than one we currently played. Sax was easy though.

So did Focus (Thijs van Leer and --Hocus Focus immediately comes to mind). Jade Warrior featured quite a bit of flute, too.

I've always liked Thick as a Brick. I know of lot of Tull fans were disappointed when it first came out though.
