Was anybody hip to this? Chris Culliver’s Future With Redskins “Uncertain,” Contract No Longer Has Any Guarantees - NFL Trade Rumors -

Zac Boyer of the Washington Times reports that the one-game suspension served by Redskins CB Chris Culliver back in Week 2 has resulted in the guarantees included in his contract being voided.

Culliver’s suspension stems from an incident that occurred back in March 2014 when he was playing for the 49ers. Culliver plead guilty to two misdemeanors over the summer, but the Redskins elected to include a clause that voided any remaining guaranteed money should he be suspended in connection with that incident.

Beyond that, Culliver is working his way back from a torn ACL that ended his 2015 season.

Culliver admits that his future with the team is “uncertain.”

“It’s uncertain,” Culliver said Monday. “You’ve got to embrace the uncertainty.

According to Boyer, it’s possible that the Redskins could approach Culliver about restructuring his contract, which includes a $9.25 million cap figure for the 2016 season. However, Washington has yet to began any discussions with his representatives about doing so.

Culliver, 27, signed a four-year, $32 million contract that included $16 million guaranteed with the Redskins back in March. He stands to make base salaries of $3 million in 2015 and $8 million from 2016-18.

In 2015, Culliver appeared in six games and recorded 16 tackles and a pass defense for the Redskins.

On a side-note. Smart move by the Skins, but WTF was Culliver thinking to sign that?

Result of the brass knuckles incident he had that hadn't been NFL resolved in terms of suspension when we signed him.

Also, it's been reported that the skins plan to NOT uphold that clause, guess as a good will/faith gesture tho that makes little sense to me. Hope they restructure the contract at least.

Yeah I had heard this and commented a month or so ago. With a weak FA class that will probably mean overpaying I guess they feel they can't do better. We'll see. This was my favorite signing last year, turned out to be maybe the worst.

I had to google Chris Culliver brass knuckles incident and saw it was part of his hit n run. Yeah, they paid him a nice piece of change no doubt. It wasn't his fault due to injury, but he certainly didn't live up to his end of the bargain. I do wish they would've continued to sideline him instead of letting him play after his initial injury.

Unless things have totally circled the drain for whatever reason. I can't imagine he's in danger of getting waived. For no other reason than if Culliver doesn't work out. The 2015 FA period for the Skins will be nearing or in full on disaster territory.

I think I read as of now they plan on keeping him. We need defensive backfield depth.
