How so? Are you allowed to toke at your job? I know I'm not.

Do you think it could hinder a player's performance? The player's are welcome to not play in the NFL. The NFL does not exist for the players...it exists for entertainment. The NFL is their employer. If they can't meet the requirements, McDonald's is hiring.

The NFL exists to entertain me with the best athletes in the world. Josh Gordon is one of those athletes. So is Leveon Bell. So should have been Ricky Williams, but the league denied the fans that great talent.

Hindering a player's performance? WTF?! That will be sorted out by coaches if that is even relevant at all. How is some sort of personally induced hindrance worse than the league restricting players entirely?

I will have to disagree with saying the NFL took these players away from you. You can disagree with the rule, but it is a rule the players CHOSE to break. The players took themselves out of the game.

The players are football players, the NFL is policy makers. It was a failure in policy that kept these talents from the fans. If weed so negatively affects their talents then let them get beat out in camp. I only care about the fans. Not the players. The fans lost here.

Again, the policy was set, the players CHOSE to ignore said policy.
Not that hard to figure out.
If the NFL lifts the ban, I'll say let the players smoke. Problem today is, if the ban is lifted, players in pot states could smoke without risk, with players in non pot states will risk arrest, not to mention non pot states may set up pot stings as teams arrive to play a game and get half the team arrested.

I am a nuke worker . Pot ( medically ) is legal in my state . It helps with pain and my wife siezure disorder

If I test positive for it I will lose my job . It is their policy and I know it , hence I don't use it

It's called a choice . If I want pot I have to find another job

Right. But that doesn't mean it's not a dumb policy.

Nobody is arguing that the nfl doesn't have the right to test for it. The question is wether or not they should.

That's a fair argument, but I could never agree with those blaming the NFL for the suspensions. If the pot rule was a secret rule that no one knows then yes blame the league, but I'm certain we all kniw what the rule and it's punishment is.

Thing is, the NFL sets policy based on whats considered acceptable behavior in society. As more states legalize pot, the NFL will re-evaluate their stance on it. Much like alcohol, if I showed up at work six sheets plastered and it would affect my job.. they would send me home. Possibly fire me. But as long as it doesnt affect my job, or my ability to do my job, and i dont show up drunk... my company does not care what I do to my body on my time as long as it does not negatively affect my job.

Which is the way it should be.

And your fans would lose. What if all entertainers were tested for weed and not allowed to entertain us?

Then they would lose all their money. They would realize doing a little weed isn't worth the millions it cost them. They would stop doing weed. They would be better off and so would society.

Or, we would find other entertainers.

Yeah, worse ones. That's the point.

I don't care about players having money or making money, I care about the fans getting to watch the best players. Only one thing has to happen for that to be possible. The league only needs to change its worthless policy.

Maybe you should stop excusing the players for their actions. They do not need weed. They choose to break the rules.

If the players that get in trouble for weed had never played, you wouldn't miss them. And you don't miss Josh Gordon right now. Their existence is inconsequential.

You call it a worthless policy, likely because you enjoy weed. You fail to look at the science or the business.

  1. According to Uniform Crime Reporting data for Denver, there has been a 10.1% decrease in overall crime from this time last year and a 5.2% drop in violent crime.
  2. The state has garnered over 10 million in taxes from retail sales in the first 4 months. The first 40 million of this tax revenue is earmarked for public schools and infrastructure, as well as for youth educational campaigns about substance use.
  3. There are renewed efforts to study the medical efficacy of marijuana within the state, making Colorado an epicenter for marijuana research.

Cannabis legalization has already yielded some positive stats for Colorado. People in power are realizing there is money to be made. Will Colorado be the guinea pig for the rest of the world to follow suit?

  4. The marijuana industry has developed quickly, generating thousands of new jobs. It is estimated there are currently about 10,000 people directly involved with this industry, with 1,000 to 2,000 gaining employment in the past few months alone.
  5. Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, who opposed Amendment 64, recently compared Colorado’s economy since legalization to that of other states by noting, “While the rest of the country’s economy is slowly picking back up, we’re thriving here in Colorado.” For example, the demand for commercial real estate has increased drastically, with houses in the state appreciating up to 8.7 percent in the past year alone.
  6. The voters of Colorado retain an overall positive view of the regulated marijuana market, with 54% of Colorado voters still supporting marijuana legalization and regulation, according to a recent Quinnipiac poll.
  7. By removing criminal penalties for certain marijuana-related offenses, thousands of individuals will avoid the collateral consequences associated with a criminal record. The state is estimated to potentially save $12-40 million over the span of a year simply by ending arrests for marijuana possession.
This is yet another bullet in the coffin for cannabis propaganda. We are now at a point where the government has finally realized, or perhaps finally admitted what they’ve already known, how much money there is to be made from cannabis legalization.

On top of that, there is undeniable evidence surrounding the use of cannabis as a means to treat disease. This is the real cherry on the cake. The fact that this widely available plant is showing results in eradicating cancer, today’s most prominent and insistent disease, is monumental when really considered. Could we be on the brink of a massive cannabis-health revolution? If positive economic and social stats keep on rising in Colorado, we could be seeing the beginning of this revolution very soon.

We can hope!

You keep trying to make it about the players, when it more importantly is about the fans. I'm not into this game to attack individual players for their life choices, I'm into it to watch a high level of football by the most talented players this planet has to offer.

Yes, Josh Gordon is sorely missed. An entire franchise is unwatchable because of Josh Gordon not being there.

You have no desire to go into the science. And on the business side you don't really care about that either, because you ignore the pain medication lawsuits and ignore the fans.

I am making it about the fans. Without fans, the NFL makes no money. If the NFL makes no money, the player's make no money. There is no money without the fans.

Josh Gordon was not missed in the slightest. The revenues proved that. The game went on. The Browns still sucked, just like they did with him.

The science is there. There are plenty of negatives involving the use of marijuana. There are medical applications that are helpful. There are also other pain medications available. So should players be suspended for their off the field conduct? Well, there are negative consequences to their actions in terms of advertisers, so yes.

You mention the quality of the product on the field. If you had a league of dopers, the product would be far less than a single player suspension.

You are pretending that's true and I can see that you are very firmly and emotionally invested in that pretense.
