I don't think there are any bowl games on January 1st this year because the New Years Holiday is being recognized on the 2nd.

That makes basically no sense to me........

Why don't they celebrate the day on Sunday, but give everyone the day off on the 2nd............same thing, but you're celebrating the actual day

Jan 1st will still be New Years Day, just like Dec 31st will be New Years Eve.

The National Holiday is the 2nd.

Because the corporate world rules our country, they would never go for giving people the day off on the second. In other words, theys the special people in America! I used a little jive there!

Why is the holiday being recognized on the 2nd?

The Holiday is "recognized" on the 2nd because then government employees and most other folks get a holiday day off on Monday....

The reason the New Years Day bowls are being played on the "recognized" holiday is because of the NFL playing on the 1st.....

Back before the BCS and ESPN stringing all the fucking bowl games out over days (when I'm not on Holiday and can't watch them) I would of been pissed at college football moving the games away from a day that used to be college football's day.....

Now, I only watch the Huskers(I'll take the night off work if it's a weeknight) and catch whatever bowl games happen to be on the weekends......

To expand, if New Years Day falls on a Saturday, the recognized day off would be Friday, but all the New Years Day games would be played on New Years Day on Saturday.....

The only reason they aren't being played on New Years Day this year is because it's a Sunday and the NFL plays.....
