The game reminded me of the Sept 13th 1997 match-up with the University of Central Florida. UCF had a sophomore QB by the name of Daunte Culpepper. Nebraska was losing at halftime and got taken to the wire with a 38-24 win (the 38 coming on a late NU TD). I remember leaving Memorial Stadium that day thinking there's NO WAY the Huskers could win the Big XII, let alone a National Title.

1st Q
UCF-7
NU- 0

Halftime
UCF-17
NU- 14

3rd Q
UCF-17
NU- 31

Final
UCF-24
NU- 38

The only real difference was UCF (who finished 5-6) was only in their second year @ D1-A.

I think we'll see Derek Carr playing on Sundays. The kid earned a ton of respect from me last Saturday.

Even though NU won, it was pretty quiet leaving Memorial Stadium that day.

Another interesting factoid is that Nebraska won @ Washington the following week 27-14.

BRS, are you on the sidelines during the games?

Nah... I have a better view... But I mingle down there on and off with players parents and old timers...

We once were proud and pursued each game with a passion!

We survived great turmoil amongst painful coaching changes!

We once stood shoulder to shoulder in an effort to thwart off challenges that came our way!

We were a household name nationwide and respected in almost every corner of the US!

In tough games we learned!

In easy games we showed appreciation!

Even in defeat we held our heads up high, knowing somehow we would overcome!

We respected the goal but knew the challenge of getting to the NCG!

Yes, we were;

We once were great; and now;

Well; let;s just say we need some work;.

.
.
.

By the way; The above is regarding our fan base, not the team!

You see, the team has a lot of growing to do and they know this. They see their faults and are working tiresly to correct them.

Will they obtain their goal?

Well; if they don't, it will not be because they gave up or they have surrendered...

Just my opinion;

BRS

PS: I am not saying fans should not have opinions or high expectations...
however to take a :ss: on us two weeks into the season... meh, there is still time... even though I have stated and restated that we have a tough assignment to live up to most eveyones expecations.

BRS -- you always come out and make the greatest plorsts sir --good read
