Does that take his cap hit completely off of the books?

I believe it does (at least for this season) if the report is accurate. Huet still has a second year at 5.625 million, though.

Ooooookay, i'm sorry but if this takes off his cap hit completely, that's just cheap. A team should be able to simply loan players that are underperforming with a high cap hit to foreign teams just to get them off the books. that's screwed up.

Just to clear things up (in case there is any confusion), Huet will still be paid his 5.625 million by the Hawks this upcoming season, but it does indeed free up the same amount in cap space.

There's not too many teams that want to pay a player that kind of money not to dress for their team...

i suppose, i guess it just seems like it's cheating the system as far as waivers and demotion goes. well, maybe now their a little clear of the cap.

Should the league investigate this for circumventing the cap? ;)

lol...C'mon Sutter, dump Kotalik either in the KHL or an European league and get some more offensive talent.

not at all.

Hawks will need to waive Huet for this to happen.
they may need to demote him, and the AHL club will lend him to Europe.

Same thing that happened to Nylander last year.

ooookay, that makes more sense. however, isn't nylander still on the books? maybe i'm mistaken about that.

the Caps are paying Nylander, as the Hawks will continue to pay Huet.
But if he's not on the team, he's not a cap hit.

Jeff Marek tweets on Bettman responding to Huet transfer:

Bettman calls Huet transfer not a circumvention but rather "cap management". Says however it is something to look at

I'm surprised that Gary stopped this...but it does make sense as far as cap circumvention goes. It's kind of like a scape-goat when a GM makes a horrible deal...teams shouldn't be able to get that off the books so quickly. That's how I feel at least. GMs have to have accountability...even when it's the former GM.

gary didn't stop it. looked at it and said it was OK.

teams have been able to waive underperformers as long as I can remember.
nothing different about this, except Huet is going to Europe instead of the AHL.
