RD 1 PK 10 Haha Dix S Alabama
RD 2 PK 45 Kyle Van Noy OLB BYU
RD 3 PK 76 Marcus Roberson CB Florida
RD 4 PK 111 Travis Swanson C Arkansas
RD 4 PK 133 Crockett Gilmore TE Colorado St
RD 4 PK 136 Jeff Janis WR Saginaw Valley St
RD 6 PK 189 Khryi Thornton DT Southern Miss
RD 7 PK 227 Nate Freese K Boston College

Love the early defense theme. I could swap the CB pick and go WR in 3rd and CB at 133. Somebody here convinced me to give Austin a chance at what we have currently. So along those lines of thinking he should be able to help a mid rounder develope.

I'd actually rather see the 111 pick be the only one on offense. The team must pick up at least one and preferably two DE in the draft given the lack of depth after Ansah. Otherwise OK though I'd prefer the corner at 10 over the safety (two corners just fine in the draft - let one slide over to FS)

I dont feel like there is much separation between what Dix would bring to Detroit than a guy like Ward or Buchanon (spelling). I'd rather have one of those guys in the second than Dix in the first. More value.

I'd argue a guy like Ebron is a better prospect.

I do.

I almost compare them 3 to Watkins and a WR like Beckham or Lee. There is obvious drop offs in talent when guys are separated by near top 10 and top of second round considerations. <<<< the safeties

I am polar oppisite of you. IMO more value to getting a compliment WR for CJ and Tate and the potential game changer at safety.

Ebron's drop rate was comparable to Durham... no thanks

Now, if Dix was like Eric Berry, I would be on board.

Agreed -- Detroit doesn't have enough TE's that drop passes at an alarming rate.

If Dix and Buchanan played for the opposite team, we wouldnt even be talking about Dix at 10.

If Dix was a WR -- you'd be talking about trading up in the draft to get him.

I wouldn't quite agree with that statement. Dix playing for Bama may very well uplift his draft grade versus Bucannon but one is a pure FS (Dix), who has exceptional eyes/instincts to diagnose the pass and is good, not great, at run support.

Bucannon is more of a pure in the box SS, who is above average at run support and the short to intermediate passes but "can provide decent coverage in the deep" even though he has a greater tendency to get burned long. Maybe Austin can help teach Bucannon to have better technique, instinct, and eyes for the deep coverage.

I agree with this statement. If Dix and Buchanan played for the opposite team, they would both probably drop out of the first round.

TrustmeImright,

My god dude, you just wont let it go hunh? Lol. Everyone knows I'm a Watkins fan but if you have been paying attention, I like a lot of the defenders too.

Lighten up -- I'm just messing with you. This draft can't get here soon enough.

Its pretty good but here's what Lionstop1 thinks about it:

Drafting Clinton Dix at 10 would be a bit of a reach, especially Lmao because there is no need for an immediate upgrade at safety. You lose some value drafting him at 10, so a trade down at least five slots makes more sense.

Van Noy is a great option at 45, plus the fan favorite.

Marcus Roberson would be a decent pick but it would be hard for him to crack the starting line-up. For a 3rd round pick, he needs to be a contributor. He has had a few injuries also.

Travis Swanson is a nice pick there.

Dont know much about Gilmore but the Lions should keep the guys they have at TE if they dont draft one by round 3. A kicker or back-up Qb should be considered here.

Jeff Janis would come in and probably get the fourth or fifth spot in the group. Doubt he beats out Ross.

Not that I'm against a trade down scenario for Dix but that would kinda being like showing our hand at the point which would leave the door open for another team who maybe high on Dix to snake in there and trade ahead of us for him. I also believe the only guy the Lions currently have on the roster that can start at either safety position is Quin, the rest are pretenders. As for the selection of Roberson .... Mathis and Houston are older and other than Slay I feel like this is probably a put up or shut year for all the other young corners which would lead the CB position a dire need next year at this point. Gillmore is a TE that can catch, his downside is that he's not known for getting separation.
