Are there still folks around here that feel good about the fullback situation?

The amazing Orson Charles is still here taking up a valuable roster spot as we continue to demonstrate just how stupid it is to not have a fullback. We dodged a big bullet today.

It's also not a good idea to keep a 4th tight end.

I have nothing agains Charles -- He's a fine prospect. But, we have two pass catching tight ends locked up for the next two seasons. Our third tight end is a vet (Smith) that the coaching staff values..... Most people in favor of keeping Charles over Conner talked about Gruden's offense and the value of an "H-back." I just don't see how this is playing out in our favor at all.... Gruden doesn't use him. And short yardage is going to continue to be an issue. It's cute to watch Peko come into the game, but he's not very good at playing fullback.

peko kinda made me mad today, this is the idiocy that is the Bengals, I'd rather see BJGE attempt to make a block at FB, or even Alex Smith, we don't need a 4th TE

They called it a "false start".....lol.....after he started, he couldn't stop......He did manage to fall into the pile and move something forward on the TD, though I wouldn't really call what he did a block.....

Conner should have been on the team.....we dont need to be in 3wr's sets all the time with Andy cause he cant show out in that shit....2 TE's a FB and run the ball with playaction....

Yeah, that was the single dumbest move by this coaching staff. Gruden wanted Conner but sounds like Hue talked Marvin into Charles... you guys want Hue at OC? Please.

Yup! He took a Raider team from 31 to 10 I believe he is a WAY better play caller than Gruden... McFadden had his best numbers with Hue as coach..... He took those boys to 8-8 and they hadnt sniffed 8-8 in 10 years..RB's and WR's have had their best years under him..... I believe in the guy as a coordinator....

They absolutely NEED a fullback. The offense has gone the wrong direction with Dalton as quarterback. They have to run the ball successfully to win consistently and beat good teams. The running game was nearly as big a factor as the defensive performance yesterday, and as good as that defense is, if the offense can control the clock we just aren't going to give up many points to anyone. We just don't have the quarterback to win shootouts, but I believe Dalton can be somewhat successful as a game manager of a power running offense.

Hopefully, Presley is ready to come off the PUP list after next week. I much preferred him to Conner or Charles.

start Trevor Robinson

This is what the running game needs more than a FB.

The offense simply doesn't call for a FB to be in there more than 10% of the plays, if that, and that isn't going to change.

However, Cook is awful. Just flat out awful, and how he has held onto this job is beyond me, but giver Robinson a few shots to see if they can't open up a bit more room in the running game between the guards. They can't simply run pitches and sweeps, and off-tackles for 4/5ths of the run calls.

Cook ranks 25th of 34 qualifying centers (25% or more of snaps) at -2.3 for the season. However, he is tied for ninth as a run blocker at +1.8, and only 13 of the 34 qualifiers grade out at >+1.0 for the season. He's horrible as the pass blocker though(-4.2).

I don't think that a 2 TE set offense should have a straight up FB taking up space on a roster. So I am okay with Charles still even if he is not seeing the field. I consder Charles the 4th TE, not the starting FB, as I don't believe this roster actually has a FB on it, and shouldn't have one either.

If you have a special case where you need a FB like yesterday and it is GL with a yard to go, I am fine with a jumpy and excited Peko lead blocking for a play.

Peko is good for comic relief, at least.....

On the last one all he did was stumble into the pile. At least his fat ass pushed the pile backwards, but it's not like he picked out someone and made a block.

No FB in the league would have been able to find a helmet to outright block in that situation. It was GL, straight up run, nothing wide, DL pinched and LB'ers filling the gaps. There was a certain spot for the RB to go in the line, so the only thing that was Peko's responsibility was helping to sway the push of teh DL at the point of attack to give BJGE enough depth to either push his way into the pile or go over the pile without being too high and vulnerable without being closer to the GL.

Peko did his job perfectly on that particular play, unlike the first attempt. HAHA That was funny.
