The way this preseason has gone its just to ease us in on how bad the season is going to be

I see 7 or 8 wins. I know some people here think Wentz will save the organization but that is NOT the case and they know it.

If you tell yourself something enough times, you will eventually believe it.

I hope we move on from Rivera at the end of the year and get experience in the front office so we can build a team properly. Hiring Rivera to run the front office was always a mistake. I would like to see more humility in the front office instead of pride, arrogance, and nepotism.

I see 8 or 9 wins. Wentz will improve play at QB to keep us relevant to a degree. The defense will be no better than last year, maybe even a slight decline overall. The coaching staff did not address the 2 main areas of concern on defense (LB/CB) and the OL is beginning the season in duress having zero continuity heading into week 1. I honestly see a year 1 well coached Doug Pederson team beating our Commanders putting everything into question from week 1. Should be a fun ride this season...

I would not be shocked if we go 0-2 to be honest. We have one of the least talented rosters in the NFL and the pre-season starter play leaves did not give me "hope". The offseason free agency we were all looking for simply never happened. Rivera "likes what we have" apparently. The Lions appear to be surprisingly better than anticipated.

The positive crowd has yet to provide any real concrete evidence of vast improvement. You can only rely on "the power of positive thinking" for so long. Most of this comes down to simple logic. I think some fans are simply not being honest with themselves and make outrageous statements. Our front office and coaching staff continue to under-produce and the on-filed results are not there. Even Jay Gruden had 2 winning seasons in his first 3 seasons here. Rivera doesn't have one yet. No wonder we have the least optimistic fans in the league.

They have something like $28 million dollars worth of CBs, what were they supposed to do @ CB?

They need depth IMO. I feel the starters are adequate, but after the starters, this preseason showed us we have no depth.

It is either a coaching issue or a talent issue. Do we have sufficient talent at CB depth or do we not have effective coaching? Maybe it is a little of both. Rivera wants a mulligan and is rolling with the same players/DB coach as last year. Outside of late-round picks (Butler at S, and Holmes at CB), I believe we did nothing to upgrade the depth in the secondary. Holmes looks awful; however, he is a rookie and will hopefully learn. I cannot see him making the roster and would be a great candidate for the PS. Butler looks like a ST difference maker at this point. Again, he is a rookie and needs experience. I hope he makes the team and continues to grow. That being said, I am not sure Holmes or Butler can really be counted on at this point.

I am not going to try to tell you the secondary is great but right now you are talking about guys who are 6th and 7th (guesstimate) at the CB position.

Lets go to the last game .... a CB bit on a double move. You can only do that if you know you have help over the top. Take your choice, did he forget he didn't have safety help, did the safety forget he should have been there. Who are we going to blame that on JDR or the DBs coach. I don't think they taught them to fuck up.

So our three CBs are Fuller, Jackson ($28 mill combined) and St. Juste. Aha!! who is number 4? Elder or Jackson most likely.

At safety we have McCain and Curl, with Reaves or Forrest as #3 or #4. I don't love it, I don't hate it.

Guys that you mentioned ... Butler and Holmes are likely practice squad or STs players most likely. If they make the team and if they have to start the team is in trouble.

One thing I like is every starter has been here for two or all three of RR and JDRs coaching tenure. I "hope" that helps with communication and experience in the defense.

DL we need guys to step up considering their draft position and salary ... other than Jon Allen. Sweat hasn't made anyone forget Kerrigan and Young won't be fully healthy until next year. Not sure what to think about Payne yet. I like him but not sure he is happy.

So that was sort of the reason for the teasing earlier. Instead of taking the easy way out and saying the coach sucks (might be true), we don't have a real GM (correct and they are not going to get one) lets break it down. We haven't even got into the X's and O's ... combo coverages, man under, cover3 over the top etc. etc. .... and we haven't even got into offense yet.

Because I played and coached football I watch reporters with a discerning eye. Bloggers even more so "OMG the DBs are three yards off the line of scrimmage." No shit, they are playing zone. How often do you see them talk about leverage? Maybe they played outside leverage and the help was to the outside.

Just a few thoughts. I think this team can go anywhere from 7-10 wins but it depends on how long until Wentz is comfortable in the offense and injuries for them and their opponents.

Heading into the preseason I was low end 7-10, high end 10-7. I was holding back my prediction based on if they were going to add a linebacker.

I really think the offense has a chance to be dynamic. Losing Robinson hurt, but getting Loagn back early should provide Wentz with a much needed safety valve.

The defense will struggle. Very thin in the back 7. Starting 0-2 wouldn't shock me at all. Heading to Dallas 3-0 wouldn't either. This is probably the toughest team to get a feel for that I can remember.

I liked what I saw from Jamin, but Holcomb doesn't appear ready for the responsibility that has been place on him. Small sample size, so I could be wrong on that.

I expect us to be in a bunch of close games and that is why Slye being up and down this preseason is curious and concerning.

Long story short, I have no fucking clue what we are gonna look like vs Jacksonville. Would it shock anyone one this board if we blew them out? Would it shock anyone if we lost a close one to them on a late score?

If the guards have anything left in the tank and Samuel stays right we are gonna be tough to stop.

Fuller and Jackson have to play to their contracts. I still think Landon could really help this team.

My heart says 9-8
My head says 8-9

Excellent write-up! I agree and would not add anything. These are my concerns as well. I would add that the OLine and health at OLine is a concern.

I am 1 game off.

With respect to depth, we are seeing changes as we speak. Elder and D. Johnson are now gone. I am guessing Holmes makes it? Check back in 10 minutes and that could change...LOL

I agree that coaches are not teaching players to make mistakes. Mistakes happen and are part of the game; i get that.

Hopefully the secondary improves...quite frankly, they must. We led the league in passing TDs allowed (34) and bottom 4 in passing yards allowed. The question remains, who is responsible for those numbers? The second question is, what measures were taken to address the league's worst passing defense? Nobody has really answered this. I believe we are all more focused on the offense and what happens with Wentz.

In an attempt to explore this and assign accountability, I was advised to "be more positive" and to "have more faith". When I dismissed this, I was told to leave the board. I am all ears for getting an explanation as to what happened in 2021 and what will be different in 2022 with the defense. I apologize and not trying to be irritating, but "being more excited" and "being positive" are not answers to the above questions.

If it's a lack of talent, why was more talent not brought in? If it was the coaching, why was Chris Harris retained? Or, does Rivera and the fanbase believe 2021 was the perfect storm for poor play and a mirage?

I agree with your DLine comments. I am not going to comment on Wentz as I have made my thoughts known on that matter and bore the board.

Our defense isn’t good enough vs good teams

I have no concerns about AG , and if we stay healthy on the o/line and at TE/ Wr we can be good on offense

My fear is wince is KC part 2. . He puts up numbers for us to win but the defense ends up sucking dick and special teams giving games away late .

KC was scapegoated and so will wince
I see a pedestrian 9 wins

Considering that is 2 more wins than last year I'll take it. Considering very little to no new impact players added (except Wentz) during FA, I'll take it. The problem is you cannot score 335 pts while giving up 434 pts. Hell, the last team in our division who won a mere 4 games didn't give up that many points. That has to change this season. My leash with JDR is very, very short.

Hopefully someone is working the phones tonight and using this as free agency part two. We need to improve the roster.

I think we all know a roster is a living breathing thing throughout a season.
