This was called a goal for Atlanta after they stopped to review it. They never gave an explanation, even though the puck doesn't appear to ever cross the goal line completely.

I am looking for a video to post, but here is a pic where the puck got before bouncing back out.

well the puck is in the air and it went past the bar which is directly over the goal line. The angle of the overhead camera throws it off.

The camera angle is skewed. The crossbar is directly over the goal line and the exact width of the goal line, so seeing that the puck is completely past the crossbar, it can be concluded that the puck is completely over the goal line. Good goal.

I mean it's not like it really mattered in the long run, but they could of at least explained what they looked at, and how they came to their conclusion.

RJ & Harry Neale thought it wasn't a goal based on what they were seeing and were confused by the lack of an explanation.

It's weird because you usually don't see a puck that only goes in by an inch or so just under the crossbar, but I gotta agree that the puck did get up into the net past the crossbar so it's a good goal.

/I also agree that explanations make things so much better.

LOL, watching the replay of the game and Rick is baffled as well.. "this is not a goal, it didn't cross the line"

The NHL should put some kind of chip in the puck to tell if it completely crossed the goal line or not. :D

almost the exact same type of goal happened in a wings ducks game earlier in the year and it counted. it's just the skewed camera angle

If you're going to put a camera overhead, why not line it up so the back of the crossbar lines up with the back of the goal line? Then you'd actually have a proper view of the goal-plane.

Although, if this puck was anywhere near the top of the net, it clearly went in.

I tipped my monitor to almost the same angle as the camera and it still doesn't appear to cross the goal line.

:noidea:

I agree if it could be done properly, but even if you're off by just half an inch, that's half an inch that could potentially cost a goal on a replay because you can't see it. I don't like that the angle is slightly off of the goal line either, but I do understand why they do it that way.
