How in the world do the Pens score 6 on Halak?

In one game? Are you kidding me? I guess Bylsma looked at those final two games between the Caps and Habs, and put together a much better game plan than Boudreau could come up with.

Any Caps fan that saw that game last night had to be sick to their stomach. i didn' see the game, but when i saw the Pens scored 6 goals, I felt the salt pour into my wound!

I said it at the end of last year's playoffs, and the way things ended this year reiterates my point that Boudreau needs to go. Something's gotta change here.

I'm sure there are going to be personnel changes among the players, but I really feel like the Caps need a HC that's not considered a soft, "players coach".

The Caps need a HC that can motivate them better than Boudreau can. It's painfully obvious.

I know they had a great regular season, but what did that get them? Nothing.

Halak will be back in goal for game 2....he was just being rested because thegame was out of reach at that point...

Seriously there were a lot of factors. The Habs just won a hard fought series and seemed to be both mentally and physically drained. They had little time to prepare for the Penguins, a team quite different from the Capitals, and it showed. They couldnt stop the Penguins power play, one that is much different than the Capitals.

Im just not sure, when you take everything into account that the score in this game is a reflection in any way of the Capitals.

you really can't compare the two things. obviously there were a few players with shortcomings on the caps roster, and halak stole the show. the pens had fewer shots, but a better quality of shots. they ran traffic in front of the net, and they run their PP differently...there are too many factors in it. though i can say it was a bit surprising that halak let in 5. but really only 1 or 2 were 'savable'...don't let it get to you too much. it was a slightly different habs team that came out.

Simple. The Caps didn't put enough traffic in front of Halak. He was able to see the shots. Against the Pens, they have made life miserable for him. Tons of traffic and some goals that he had no chance on.

This.

Knuble's the only real net presence the Capitals had. You've got to do it every shift. Nothing gets a hot goalie off his game better than net presence.

In addition to the traffic in front, the Pens did a better job with their east-west game, getting more lateral movement with their passes and shots.

So Halak didn't even play? That makes sense. Sit the hot goalie. I'm glad the Pens won then. IMO, sitting halak was a bonehead move.

He played. 5 goals on 20 shots and was pulled for Carey Price. The 6th goal was an empty netter. He will most likely be back in net for game 2 tomorrow.

Boss is right and Dare hit the nail on the head too. Pens finally were successful with their East/West passing. Just one game and I am still nervous about this series. The Habs are no joke. I feel this goes at least 6 games.

What if Halak had been benched for this game and given a rest (as the announcers suggested) and Price played and won. Who starts game 2?
