Since the season's about over what grade do you give the Bengals 2013 draft?

Benard had ROY consideration and Eifert was under used IMO but you could see he had big play capability. Overall I grade the draft a C-.

Hard to evaluate after only one year, but here are some thoughts.

Eifert -- Not as good a season as I think some people hoped. He wasn't really that much of a difference maker in the redzone, but our offense was really good in the redzone so it's hard to say we needed him there. Be interested to see how much improvement he makes this season.

Gio -- Couldn't ask much more out of a second round back. He's a keeper.

Hunt -- Clearly a project. Another guy that will be interesting to watch for improvement.

Williams -- Looked like an athlete on ST. Didn't play much on D. Hard to know if it was one of those Marvin doesn't play rookies at certain positions things, or if he struggled in practice.

Porter was hurt.

Burkhead isn't any good, but he's a novelty and knows the president.

Everyone told me Cobi Hamiltion was good, but I don't know what happened to him.

Yeah, outside of Gio it's hard to evaluate. And even with Gio it's hard because it's not like he got the lion's share of the touches in most games. His YPC and all that is bound to come down, but the long-term impact he could make being on the field 75% of the time could be great.

Hunt is a raw athlete with amazing size/speed/strength. He's just stupid (not in a bad way) in football terms. At the NFL level your phisicality won't get your much. You have to spend time learning the game, in which most people have been doing all their lives. He's only been doing it for a few years. He'll be interesting to watch towards the end of year 2 and more into year 3.

Porter - hurt, but hard to imagine he would have a greater impact that some of the LB's already playing. Harrison ended up with a solid year, as did Vinnie Ray, and Burfict. RM had his best year yet as a Bengal, and probably would fare better if Lammur didn't go down forcing RM into more passing defense sets.

Burkhead is what he is...a Rb that fills out depth and ST.

I didn't even know Hamilton was still around, PS or otherwise.

Hamilton is on the practice squad.

I feel Eifert was underused too but he did total: 39 catches and 445 yards.

Almost identical to Heath Miller in his rookie year: 39 catches and 459 yards.

Miller had more TD's (6 versus 2).

Agreed about Eiffert, as well. You have 2 TE's that you can line-up out wide as WR's and take advantage (in theory) of the CB's.

AJ on the other side, you can put Jones in the slot for a play or two, and line-up Eiffert (or Gresh) out wide.

A lot of teams with these kinds of TE's do this...well, everyone does, but the Bengals.

The only issue is that Eifert was a first rounder because of his pass catching potential. Heath Miller is more of an all-around tight end. Unless I'm mistaken, Heath has always been a tremendous blocker. That's something that Eifert struggled with.

just goes to show that draft hype is all bullshit.

he's better than Gresham, who was also hyped.

Interesting post.

The only TE I can think of who was legitimately great as a rookie was Jeremy Shockey. Gronk was very good, but he didn't even scratch the surface of how great he showed to be the next couple seasons
