Perhaps jvett, they have all decided the season is kaput and they are just showing up for a paycheck. Sounds like a goodly portion of our culture these days.

You're right, Retro, they're showing up for the paycheck. I should have included Revere (June .354, Aug .388 - 11 games).

Actually these guys need to purchase a professional pitching machine for their 5 acre estates so they can practice hitting for hours at home instead of simply getting in their 15 minutes of BP at the park before the game. We talkin bout practice, I mean we talkn bout practs, as Iverson used to say.

Yeah, that was a classic line and that attitude was indeed evident as to that idiot homeboy's ultimate results ending up in some obscure league in some foreign country! Practice??!! Freakin' knappy-headed dumbass!

Ok so lets look at your list, jvett. Ruf and asche are just breaking in and in my opinion will have nice careers. D young came off an injury when he started here...took him awhile just to get something going offensively but he was mis-casted in the national league since he can't play the field. Should have never been here! Rollins has lost bat speed and power. It really doesn't take much at this level to lose it! And you can make a similar case for m young. Frandsen, mayberry, and kratz never had it to start with! All 3 are, at best, bench players. So none of this has to do with collecting paychecks or setting up batting cages on their big estates.

WestCoastFan: If I were in a serious slump and collecting MLB min or millions per year, yes, I would do anything I could to improve my hitting in my free time. There's no work ethic among these bastards. And that's called collecting a fucken paycheck, new arrivals included!

we don't really know anything about their work ethic. but my gut feeling tells me that they do try really hard... my main point is at the major league level, everyone's skill level is very high. these guys are the cream of the crop. if you were watching the worst major league players in a pickup game locally in your neighborhood, they would look incredibly awesome. so it doesn't take that much to lose your edge and never get it back or in the case of say a John Mayberry Jr, he just doesn't have that little extra talent to compete as an everyday player....doesn't matter how hard he tries!

Everybody must practice hard to retain their skills especially as they age. Hitting a baseball is about timing and for those who start slipping, it probably can be improved by some type of extensive, intense hitting practice. That's my point. That's why I mentioned Allen Iverson who discovered that practice is meaningless and continued playing without improving his FG percentage but also continued cashing his paycheck. JRol's skill level is "high". He just enjoys hitting .250, I guess.
