They went into San Antonio and beat the Spurs tonight.

Bastards couldn't stay under 206 though -_-

And houston is rolling, very nice win streak now with a very quality win. It seems the Asik + D12 experiment might be over? Too bad they couldn't make that work. They should look to trade him for a piece.

They been looking to trade Asik for at least 2-3 weeks now. Highly doubt he will be there by the trading deadline.

If they land a top-flight PG trading Asik, it will elevate them to that elite status w/OK and SA

This kid Chandler Parsons, what a steal in the second round. Kevin McHale is making some great trades and good decisions.

They may still be a player or two away but Dwight has to feel he has a great chance for a title now with the decision he made. They will draw other free agents with the talent they have and the comraderie they developed.

There one weakness is consistency at the PG position. I like Patrick Beverly, but he's perfect off the bench. Lin is clearly the weak link. If they could somehow package Lin, Asik and draft picks for a mid-tier PG (hell, even Collison from the Clips) then they may just need to get chemistry down to become a force in the West.

If they make it to the 2nd round then it's a successful season for them.

I thought Beverly was decent?

I think a PF might be better, if they could get Asik to play PF that would solve every thing. I agree that if they can get 1 more really good player that would elevate them immensely.

@ Prior post they do not let me show 5 teams!!! I have both Rockets and Spurs marked for news though, I am better at betting with teams whose talent is easy to evaluate (obvious observation) and good teams are easier because they are more consistent and more enjoyable to watch. Following them just aids everything. Next level I think will be following the mediocre teams because if you can predict their swings and evaluate their mathups that is money in the bank. But the idea of following a bunch of mediocre teams even for money makes me bored thinking about it.

I agree. Definite contenders.

Not sure a different PG puts them over the top though. You want Harden being a main ball handler. Taking the ball too much out of his hands is counter productive to his game.

Yeah Lin had some really good games this month and provide more scoring than Beverly does.

I said this team would mesh well when Dwight went there, many doubted it, glad they're proving them all wrong.

Big and little is hard to mess up the chemistry.

Why can't Asik play PF!???!???

Lin was killing it before he was injured

He has been. I just wouldn't trust him in an actual series where teams like the Spurs would alter their defensive system to throw him off, while good PGs would simply adjust. He's just average to me. Just my opinion.

Moving Lin to SG coming off the bench and the emergence of Terrance Jones at starting PF have been the big differences.

No, Lin has clearly been the best point guard on the team. Both are averaging 30 mpg:

Beverley .405 FG%, .365 3P%, 2.3 APG, 9.5 PPG
Lin .503 FG%, .390 3P%, 4.5 APG, 15.3 PPG

And between Beverley, Lin, and Brooks, PG is actually a position of DEPTH for the Rockets.

I don't consider him a PG anymore. He usually subs in for Harden's first rest, and he's usually out there with either Beverley or Brooks so they handle the ball. Which I'm really happy about, cause he's a turnover machine.

What's his assist-to-turnover ratio? Also, 4.5 APG for a typical PG is fairly low. I never said Lin was a scrub, but he's certainly not a top 10 PG, probably not even in the upper half. If he's not the weakness then who is? Lack of depth on the bench?

Serious question, not trying to be a dick.

Harden averages even more turnovers per minute.

Both would be better with fewer turnovers and more defense. But Dwight, Harden, Lin, and Parsons are the best players on the team; if there's a "weak link" in terms of talent on the Rockets, it's at PF, not at PG.

If he's not the weakness then who is? Lack of depth on the bench?

Serious question, not trying to be a dick.

That said, I don't think the Rockets have a "talent" problem. They're one of the most talented teams in the league. Their problems are elsewhere:

- terrible coaching
- getting the players' styles to gel
- lack of effort on defense
- Dwight's free throw shooting
