3rd round pick in what's been called the worst draft in recent memory. Might as well have gotten an 8th round pick this year.

I know.

What a fucking JOKE. They must have something else in the works thats going to cost them some cap space, or Hamhuis is a mega-douche asking for big monies.

He's a Penguin now, that goes without saying.

seriously, he is going to get overpayed. i told awaz when he said he was going to get about 4 mil. i did not believe it. well it turned out to be the asking price. the guy thinks he is better than he is. i still think he will try to go to the canucks. he was a headache worth nothing.

we got a 3rd and 7th rounder for parent though. sounds ok to me.

I think 4 to 4.5 is fair for him. Someone will give him 5+, and I think that is his market value is he waits until July 1st.

Why not test free agency? You only get to do it very few times in your career, if that. He is looking out for himself. Too bad, he would have been a great addition to a very very solid D corps.

agreed, someone is gonna seriously overpay him (hopefully the Pens) and handicap the depth of the team that gets him....

Someone want to tell me how Pitt can sign him without really screwing the depth of that team?

as pittsburgh fan...they can't. unless there's some super magical pittsburgh discount in the works (doubted), it'll be tight. though, the pens may be in better cap situation than the flyers (weird... mostly because we have a goalie locked in).

pronger makes under 5 mil. are you telling me hamhuis is even close to that? his offensive numbers are unimpressive. if there were more free agents out there nobody would be talking about him.

If they Pens let Gonchar walk wont that clear enough for them to sign Hamhuis?

Overpaid or not, it's still rather simple.

Pens' D w/o Hamhuis: Horrendous
Pens' D w/ Hamhuis: Not as horrendous

And it saves them from paying 2 million more for Volchenkov, who isn't even as good offensively as Hamhuis, leaving them with even more space for a guy like Michalek. Awful, awful trade.

here's the thing.. if the flyers weren't willing to sign him to the contract he wanted, they had to move him.. getting anything makes it a good trade.. a 3rd round pick is pretty solid for parent.. and thats how you have to look at it

if he signs that is.

also, volchenkov is way better defensively which is a type of player i would rather have.

Not really. Hamhuis doesn't block as many shots, but that doesn't mean he's a slouch defensively. There's a reason he wants so much money, and it's not for his minimal offense (which is still miles ahead of Volchenkov).

he is above average defensively although volchenkov is way better. and when you put up barely any goals either way then i will take the better defenseman.
