Some homer some not. Lindros and Bure were just absolute dynamic players who "could" have better careers.

I'd like to see Bure in. I think LeClair and Lindros have to wait a little while.

You know, when you combine Mark Howe's WHA and NHL point totals, they are pretty impressive:

Combined WHA/NHL stats: 1355 games, 405 goals, 841 assists, 1246 points

Somehow I see Lindros and LeClair on the outside this year. Of course, I hate LeClair for freaking injuring Malkin still. Not an extremely strong class there IMO. No 100% definitely in this time candidates.

I joke around about it a lot, but I think Damphousse has very comparable numbers to some players on that list, in some case better.

I think it boils down to two things for Hockey Hall of Fame induction:

1) You need to be at the top or top 3 in the league for a minimum of four seasons to warrant consideration or

2) You need to put up fantastic numbers over a long (i.e. 10+ year) career.

I just don't see Vinny meeting either of those criteria, comeds. He may be short-listed one year, but I don't think he'll ever get the nod.

One other thing is "star power" which I attribute to the guys who you plunk money down because they're a delight to watch. Guys like Crosby, Ovechkin and Pavel Bure definitely fall into this category.

Belfour has already soiled the cup. Does he have to soil the hall too?

Lindros... dunno. I am kind of torn. He was phenomenal to watch, absolutely dominated at times and could have done more. He made too many enemies in the media (a lot of it made up). I don't expect him to get in first try. He should be there. He was a pretty big impact to the game. In many ways. A couple generations down the line need to know the story, and that's what the hall is - the place that preserves the stories.

Of the list:
Ed Belfour - Fuck me with a rusty chainsaw. No.
Pavel Bure - Maybe
Guy Carbonneau - Yes
Theoren Fleury - No
Doug Gilmour - Not first time, if only to watch Grapes' head asplode.
Phil Housley - No doubt.
Mark Howe - Had he not had his dad be his dad, this would not even be debated. He's always been in the old man's shadow. Even when he played. He has to be there.
John LeClair - Where would he have been without Lindros? Loved Johnny, but... no.
Eric Lindros - Good, bad and ugly. He has to be in.
Kevin Lowe - Just don't put him in as a builder.
Joe Nieuwendyk - Yes, a thousand times yes.
Pat Burns - There should be a trophy named after the guy, or a room in the hall dedicated to him.

I'm fine with all choices except Kevin Lowe.

Also, no officials eligible this year?

Gilmour? I know Canada loves the guy (esp Grapes) but the HOF?

Housley? A forward playing defense? That guy wouldn't fight you if you screwed his wife.

I agree with some but some......I don't get it.

I actually think its a pretty strong class and that several players who will get in eventually are going to have to wait. I agree though that not too many stand out among the rest. I'd say Nieuwendyk gets in for sure then I'm not sure what will happen after that.

I'm a little conflicted, dash, all your bolded guys deserve in this year... but Mark Howe and Doug Gilmour have been waiting way too long, IMO. This is a tough class to decide on.

Not only in the NHL but in most sports I think we have lowered the bar for HOF considerations. JMO
