I remember those days. Nowadays presentations are the norm/easy part.

Make the most of those group meeting reviews. don't let people squirm out without asking you questions or offering criticism. they (in theory) know/understand your work far better than general audience. if they don't understand some point, the committee certainly won't. $.02

My proposal is actually unrelated to my research. I do photoelectron spectroscopy, but this proposal is on resonance enhanced multiphoton ionization spectroscopy with time of flight mass spectrometry to detect ion fragments.

I plan on building a comprehensive trend for photodissociation dynamics of chlorine from 2-chloro-aromatic heterocycles. It's been done for benzene and thiophene, but not for furan or pyridine, and the studies on benzene and thiophene are not yet directly comparable.

Right now, I'm reading a computational paper on the pi-pi* excitations of furan and pyridine, since that's the on-resonance excitation REMPI induces, followed by a vibrational redistribution of energy to other electronic states, including the pi-sigma* predissociation state in which the chlorine atom cleaves from the ring.
