Morris for Davis
or
Durham for Ford (and Hammond)

I think both deals ended up being GREAT!!
Morris/Davis was a sal dump, and we actually got a good player in return (even if the Giants never got the benefit of him). Ignore Davis, and the sal dump alone was a GREAT trade.
Durham/Ford was also a sal dump (only about 1 mil all said, IIRC). Throw in the fact that this trade MAY have saved the 2010 regular season, and this is a no-brainer AMAZINGLY AMAZING trade.
Both trades are small trades at the time that actually had HUGE payoffs that the average fan likely never sees.
Well done Sabes.

Very good points. But I have to counter with: dumping Davis for nothing, and replacing him with an inferior player for 60 mil - whose continued presence might result in Ford being optioned back to Fresno in a couple of weeks.
I break it down this way:
1. Signing Morris -- bad
2. Dumping Morris for Davis -- good
3. Cutting Davis -- meh.
4. Signing DropADeuce -- horrible.
Can't agree with you there, unless you consider "good" as essentially replacement level except for one year in Oakland.
I think cutting DropADeuce is in Sabean's best interest. Every time I see him squat at the plate, or throw one of his screwballs from the outfield, it leaves me with negative feelings towards Sabean.
Perhaps, but it might not be in his interest to go to his bosses and say "Yeah, I'd like to flush close to $30 million of your money down the toilet to fix a mistake I myself made."

It isnt like this is a hidden issue that he has to fess up about, though.
This was a KNOWN error at the time that he signed his new contract, and at the time that his option was picked up.
If he bought a van for the catering department that ended up breaking down, he would not force the caterers to continue to use that van even though it no longer moved. They would accept that it was a bad purchase and move on.
I'm not remembering any option. I thought it was a five year contract with no options.
I am referring to Sabean's option, not RoRo's.
Ahhh...that makes much more sense.
