Didn't the old Boston garden uses to have a smaller rink or a rink with different dimensions or corners or something? Has rink size always been standard? I thought I remember that not always being the case.

But I could be an idiot.

I believe Buffalo had the smallest rink, Boston was 2nd smallest. I don't believe the NHL has a standard size for rinks, but I could be wrong.

No, you're right. I remember hearing that Montreal has the largest rink, with Detroit being #2.

They have a standard now 200 x 85 but they were different before. I think Boston, Buffalo and Chicago had the smallest (somewhere around 186-188) The Forum if I remember correctly was actually a bit over 200.

It made a difference how you selected your team so it would match your rinks dimensions.

Edit: Not bad for an old man that didn't Google it before this post. Chicago Stadium (home of the Chicago Blackhawks until 1994) - 188' x 85'

The standard now is 200 X 85 for all arenas.

I found this snooping around

The Memorial Auditorium (home of the Buffalo Sabres until 1996) - 196' x 85'
Boston Garden (home of the Boston Bruins until 1995) - 191' x 83'
Chicago Stadium (home of the Chicago Blackhawks until 1994) - 188' x 85'
Olympia Stadium (Home of the Detroit Red Wings until 1979)- 200' x 83'

Yes......Most North American rinks follow the National Hockey League (NHL) specifications of 200 feet (61 m) × 85 feet (26 m). The corners are rounded in the arc of a circle with a radius of 28 feet (8.5 m).[3] The NHL attacking zones are expanded, with blue lines 64 feet (20 m) from the goal line and 50 feet (15 m) apart.[4]

And thanks to Nevada, Michigan has also dropped to #2 in unemployment! :thumb:

I have lived in a number of cities competing with Detroit for top honors.

When I lived in Cleveland, Detroit was always neck-and-neck with us for worst unemployment and most foreclosures. For decades, Detroit and DC (where I lived for a long time and again now) have vied for most murders!

And then in 1998 we played you guys in the Stanley Cup Finals... and gave you guys some excellent practice scrimmages.
