in terms of revenue generated from sponsors

so Id understand why the NHL only wants to hold these games in canada once every 7 years ... who wants to increase league revenue? ... the players end up getting paid more? this is a bad deal for the NHL

It's hard to imagine seven years passing before the NHL brings another outdoor game to Canada.

With the Heritage Classic fast approaching, the league is already seeing the benefits of having the Calgary Flames and Montreal Canadiens play outside at McMahon Stadium on Feb. 20.

In fact, sponsors have lined up and embraced the event to a degree not even seen for the Winter Classic outdoor game on New Year's Day -- widely considered the signature date on the NHL calendar.

"We've got more sponsorship dollars against this game than we actually did even (at the Winter Classic) in Pittsburgh, which is amazing to me," NHL COO John Collins said Friday in an interview. "It just speaks to the (interest). Believe me, Pittsburgh was by far the biggest event business that we've had to date."

Well duh....the Flames got McDonalds to sponser them...:D

Everybody loves Lanny!!

/I was worried that the game would be horrible (with the Flames contributing the horror, but they're playing much better and if the weather cooperates, it could be a pretty good game).

They are just trying to make it fair.
With six Canandian teams that means that each team takes part every 21 years.
With 24 US teams the Pens Caps and Wings play once every three years that means the other 21 teams, if each given an even chance, get one game every 21 years.

I will probably be alone and they would never do it but I'd like to see an NHL game played a small local arena like CBC is broadcasting from tonight as much as I would an outdoor game. Let a very few fans get real close to the action and have the cameras real close too.

Probably never going to happen, but a great idea. Maybe they could do it for some exhibition games. There are a ton of cool little high school arenas around that would be perfect for it.

Doesn't this already happen at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum?

Yeah, but most local rinks have working plumbing and an astounding lack of hepatitis.

Well, I now know that my Sony laptop can withstand a full frontal onslaught of Canadian beer (lol).

They hit me with 25$ or so a month in equipment, (HD box, cable modem etc...) The worst part is i work for Verizon and FIOS isn't available in my community yet. I would get a nice employee discount.
