Weddle wants the security of a contract to end his career on and has still been playing great. Well worth a three year deal.

Gives SD a young player and cap room.

Makes a little sense, but Weddle is what - 32 years old? Trading a 25 yr old for 32? Doubt chip wants to go that direction. Maybe if SD throws in a mid rd pick, maybe.

I wouldn't mind that trade one bit. It doesn't look like we'll be signing Boykin long term and Weddle is a stud safety with some years left in the tank. He just turned 30 years old, he's not exactly a dinosaur just yet.

Safety will be a real bitch to fill. Gotta explore a trade of some sort. It would probably take Boykin and a pick though.
