Actually, I think it's a pretty fair analysis. Obviously there are good and bad points with every player drafted. I think he nailed most of them.

OK...so when Long starts for us this season, can I tell all of you to kiss my ass?

Who's this directed toward? Why the attitude?

Recap of the Redskins 2nd and 3rd round picks: | Fanspeak Washington Redskins Blog

this guy is usually a hard ass but why not give him a voice ? i will get the rest here shortly

from "the good"..

Murphy is known as a leader and really hard worker

Have to wonder if this is one of the "intangibles" that we all talk about with regard to player evaluation. Gruden might very well be looking to infuse that in the club. London Fletcher is gone now.. maybe he can help fill a little of that void? Just an idea.

It's directed at everybody saying he was a stretch.

The guy was all Big Ten last season as a junior.

2nd team All American as a junior.

He got injured this season and it caused him to go lower than he would have.

The guy from the article is spot on. In all the positions. The Long pick COULD work out well but there were better talented players at his position on the board. Its very rare that teams use a mid 3rd round pick on a risk player. Obviously he could start for us b/c he doesn't really have any good competition ahead of him. But in reality any healthy guard taken with that pick had a chance to start for us. If he is healthy by training camp he should be in the conversation for starting at RG. I think he has the most pressure on him out of all of our draft picks b/c Murphy, Moses, and Breeland are considered 2015 starters. But if Moses cant beat out Polo in training camp I would be worried.

I understand what you are saying Dean..but to say that there were plenty better options than Long on the board at G..really isn't fair. That is based on what you and most of the "experts" think. Fact is we really don't know. Ie: If C. Richardson or Yankey were so much better and considered 2nd or 3rd round guys then why did the rest of league also pass on them until the 5th??

Anyone in the draft and those largely after the 1st and 2nd round are no more than a role of the dice. Its fun to play GM, do the mock drafts, and all of that..I am probably the worst about it. But the teams are going to pick the guys they like for whatever reasons (great fit, high character, diamond in the rough, etc.) and aren't going to listen to what Kiper says they should do or who all those guys think is better. They have their own scouting department to do that for them.

Some (or most) of these guys may not amount to squat. But Gruden and Allen seemed to go after guys who are for the most part -- intelligent, hard working, grinding kind of guys who also have some versatility and can maybe play ST and multiple positions (Long -G/C, Breeland CB/S, Moses, LT/RT).

I am OK with that approach. We will have a pretty good idea in a nother year what we have here.

I meant Gabe Jackson. But I see your point. But people on here get mad when someone calls Long a reach. He is a reach b/c of the round he was selected in and he is hurt. Of course anything can happen at training camp. There are still good players after the 1st and 2nd rounds vt. its not a roll of the dice.

So what makes them better, more talented players than Long? Long was an All-American as a junior. Perhaps the only reason Richardson was all-American is Long got injured. Did you see what happened to Richardson when he went against Aaron Donald...he put him on his ass or went around him. What makes you believe Gabe Jackson is so good? Many consider him a question if asked to pull and that he lacks quickness at the next level.

So what exactly makes Long a "reach?" Is it simply the injury which he should be easily recovered. It's not an ACL and therefore it is easier to recover and much less significant.

Breeland is considered a 2015 starter? Really? But you don't think Long is? Breeland has to beat out Amerson and Hall who will still be under contract in 2015. Long would have to beat out Chester who will be cut so I'm not sure your logic about pressure because of projected starting.

I'll go on record and state that Long has a better chance at beating out Chester in training camp than Moses does of beating out Polumbus.

as a draft pick long is somewhat of a reach. as a player he could turn out as a good player for us

i also dont buy that yankey and richardson are any better . donald beat richardson like a drum at the sr bowl in drills and in practices

yankey's stock had been dropping all through the process

True, but odds of getting a long term starter in the mid to later rounds greatly diminish. We all know that. That's not saying you can't... That is also not saying a 1st or 2nd rounder will definitely be a long term starter either (fans if this team know this all too well).

This organization has done a poor job of drafting and developing long term starters anywhere past the early rounds over the years. Hopefully that will change with some if these guys??

Its a reach b/c where he was drafted and b/c of his injury. Gabe Jackson was considered as one of the best interior lineman in the country and he played in the SEC. I am sure Long is talented and when he gets healthy he will contend for a starting position. I am comparing Long against Jackson not Richardson. gk, I said Long can be a starter on our team b/c of the poor competition and b/c where he was drafted. I hope both Long and Moses are starting on the right side of our line for 2014. The Skins really must think highly of him to take him over Gabe Jackson. I hope it works.

As far as Breeland goes he was an absolute steal. If he stayed in school he would of been a 1st round pick in the 2015 draft. He should contend for a starting role in 2015.

Predictions like this are always hard. A year ago many thought Bridgewater would be the first QB taken and a top five if not over all #1 pick. This time last year Brandon Coleman was considered a possible 1st rounder.
