they will hold their breath and hope that they either get an insane offer for tee higgins, or that he will play.

they will hold their breath and hop that j'marr chase finishes his contract and plays on the franchise tag, or that they get an insane trade offer.

they will hold their breath and hope that they get an insane offer for trey, and that he plays out his contract.

this has been their status quo and operational standard for awhile. they signed Joe. they have their QB.. that's all they got. they want the money for themselves.

This is scarily close to the truth I’m afraid.

not going to trade Trey

At this point, it goes one of two ways. 1) As it gets closer to the draft, teams get a bit desperate and offer a little more and the Bengals take the deal. This would free up money for them to sign Tee and Ja'Marr. Granted, they could pay all three, but apparently the Bengals aren't allowed to function like a modern NFL team. 2) This could be one of those, "We tried our best to do good by Trey, but teams didn't give us what we want and now we expect Trey to come back and finish out the deal he signed." I can almost hear Duke saying exactly that statement. They know they'll get a third round compensatory a couple years from now, so they aren't trading him for anything less than a high second and they probably aren't even doing that because they just want him to play on a one year deal. Trey strikes me as an odd guy and I wouldn't be shocked to see him sit out until mid season if that were the case.

Katie is like, "Fuck it. I'll sign them and sign nobody else. I hope Joe has fun picking himself off the field 15 times a game. Maybe next time he'll keep his mouth shut."
This is exactly what’s going to happen lol.

We need a Hobson piece on Jaxson Kirkland being a future HOFer to put a bow on it.

Have we had the article yet about how the line will improve just because the coach has changed? Or are we saving that article for the defense when we don't re-sign Trey?

if they manage to sign Chase and/or higgins, Trey gets the franchise tag treatment

Looks like that guy is just a dude that throws shit at the wall. He broke the big news of Fries to Seattle.... Until it was Fries to Minny. LOL.

His numbers probably aren't far off though to where they eventually land.

for this player, Chase, he's worth 2 super stars. so they should be glad they were able to keep him on the roster.

impressive. they're going to be pinching their grape for the next couple of years though.

Done. Once numbers are shared we'll see how much cap - but should free up quite a bit of cap/cash for this year.

It's a shame they just couldn't get it done about 9 days sooner, they could have hit F/A a bit harder at the outset...though I still think Trey also gets done...

and Kudos to the Bengals for varying from their normal contract process - Tee gets his 2nd year guaranteed. He also gets roughly $28M, which is about where I think most said we were comfortable at, and he would likely take. Can get to $30 if he hits the clauses - and I can live with that as well.

I agree. I give credit to the Bengals for bending to the moment and putting some strong deals in place. The duration of the Higgins deal surprised me. I thought he'd do a 3 year deal so he could hit FA again before 30. The physical game he plays, the hits he takes and the issues he has with soft tissue injuries all suggest a shorter career, so this could really be his only big deal. If so, he took a pretty big discount to stay with the Bengals. He's always been a fan favorite, but I bet that grows even more this year and into the future.

The other thing I'll say about the deals is that I read that their agent had the structure in place for Chase but told the club it wouldn't be signed until they did Tee. If that is anywhere close to true, it was really Chase and Higgins that orchestrated all of this with Tee dropping his agent and the two playing off one another. This was something I can't recall seeing in the NFL, but seems to be more of a common trend in the NBA where players exert more control over roster. I'll be interested to see if more players start doing this or if this is unique to the Bengals because of how stubborn they can be.

yea. I thought they might cut Higgins loose, but he's more valueable to us than he is to another team.

now their even rumors of having a deal for Hendrickson nearly complete. if we can patch a few spots on the defense we may squeak into the playoffs again.

Mike Brown must be heavily medicated right now.

they better hope the investment in team works. if it doesn't, they will be pinching the grapes like nobodies business in a few years.
