I honestly don't think the Hawks no what they're doing. They're cap screwed and matching that offer? I can't wait to see what happens between now and the start of the season.

Anyone know anybody named R. Wirtz? I just got a text message to come out of retirement.

this is just...i mean, the shit has really hit the fan. majorly. i just can't see what they're thinking. they can't even field a team right now. even if they bring up a bunch of AHLers, they can't afford it. obviously they HAVE to waive Huet...but then they STILL don't have money. i can't see what the end result is.

I was really hoping they wouldn't match. Oh well, I wonder who Doug will target now? Not a ton left in free agency and I doubt he would try another offer sheet. If he is going to fill Blake's spot I think Seto or Clowe are boing to be shipped out.

i'm shocked they matched.. they must think hjall is going to be an absolute stud in the future.. IMO this was a good opportunity to get pretty good return on a player when they have to get rid of people.. they are dealing from a position of weakness because they HAVE to get rid of people

He's wasn't on my wishlist but if he comes cheap it would be better than a Wallin - Murray combination (at the price tag of 5 mil for the pair).

Any chance you'll trade us Ehrhoff for Mitchell and a pick? ;)

is there some loophole us fans are missing? because looking at the numbers...they're gonna have to drop a big name. i don't see how they can keep sharp AND their top 3 big guys in toews, kane, and hossa.

i dont even hate the hawks, but i'm enjoying it because that's just one less major threat out west. the playoffs are tough enough with out that juggernaut playing at all cylinders.

no thank you. he's settled in quite nicely here.
as for Bieksa, we can't take much salary back, but no we don't want Rahimi / White back :D

the only solution i can see is to waive/demote Huet, even if it is against Rocky's religion. that's $5.6 mill for the 8 players, which is ugly but doable.
that is - until you get to Niemi's arbitration case. in which case I think they try to dump Bolland ($3.375m) before Sharp ($3.9m). harder contract to move, but at this point the damage has been long done.

they have 15 'roster players' signed, one of which is their 'back-up goalie', they need at least 1 more Dman and 3 more forwards to ice a team in a game, and another goalie, and 113K+ to spend on those. niemi is on hold with arbitration pending, but they have no money for him. they've already traded 5 of their cup winning players (or is it 4?)...who is going? seriously it's going to HAVE to be a BIG name to clear enough space. and it's gonna have to for picks and prospects alone...or really cheap roster players. they're so screwed right now. just...just look at their capgeek page. i'd be awful upset if i were a hawks fan. i loved the post-cup win summer...but to have THAT to look forward to? i'd be upset.

I dont think they get all the cap money back if the demote or waive Huet. If that is how it works then the CBA is shit.

elyeah, there's a lot of weird rules. i think that if someone claims them on waivers they're off the hook (i don't see anyone taking him at that cap hit...), but to get him to the AHL he has to go through re-entry waivers, which they're on the hook for half the salary. maybe i'm wrong with how he gets to the AHL though...i can't remember. resident nerd???!!! help me out

yes, if he goes to the AHL, his NHL cap hit is removed.
- exception is for +35 player who signed a multiyear deal
- if he gets claimed on re-call waivers, then the team would still be liable for half of the salary and half of the cap hit through the length of the contract.

i thought the full number comes off (especially if the move is done in the summer) if he gets waived, and if he clears waivers then he's in the AHL (if he's claimed, the claiming team takes the whole hit)

however, if they tried to bring him back up he would have to go through re-entry waivers, if he clears that the hawks would take his whole hit, if he doesn't clear that then the hawks would take half and the claiming team would take half.. and huet at 2.8 wouldnt be too bad, so i doubt they'd risk him on re-entry and have a 2.8 cap hit for nothing

i think thats how it works.. only time the cap hits break down further is if there is a trade during the season, then the cap hits are pro-rated (based on games left)

i could be wrong, but thats what i've been going off haha
