3(?) weeks ago the Top 10 included Oregon, Ohio State, Iowa State and Wiscosnin who had combined to start 57-0. SInce then these four teams have gone a combined 1-16. Now in years past we have had a team or 2 that started the year hot and then hit a skid but have we ever seen 4 prior top 10 teams hit such a skid ALL AT THE SAME TIME?? I cant ever remember it happening. 1 sure, 2 probably but all 4??? Thats some weird ass shit IMO. Thoughts on this???

Prior to conference play those teams played a total of 1 road game against the RPI top 40. (record 1-0)

Since conference play started they are 0-6 against the RPI top 40 on the road.

Wisconsin's losses are mostly forgivable. (losing on the road to IU didn't seem too bad until NW pulled of a win there)
None of Iowa State's losses are bad.
Ohio State is in the same boat as Wisky. Not to bad except the Nebraska loss on the road.
The Ducks losses aren't awful, (home losses were to decent teams, road losses are a little questionable)

But the moral of the story is, things get tough, when conference play starts up, especially when you're on the road.

Amazing stat.

I agree with Trolly. There is a trend in college basketball where the power conference teams refuse to play tough road games, and many of them don't even have tough home games.

Thankfully Michigan State has actually had some of the toughest OOC games year in and year out.

ISU and Wisconsin had some tough OOC games so those are the 2 teams Im most surprised with their recent struggles but as Trolly said those 2 teams have also played the better schedules so far in league.

yeah, 3 tough non-conference games between them... Iowa state played Michigan and Iowa, and Wisconsin played Florida.

But again, all three were home games.

Eh... Wisky played St Louis, UVA, Marquette, St Johns. Iowa State also played Boise State, BYU. Those are tough games. Not top 25 caliber with the exception of SLU and UVA but alot of those were neutral or road games.

Yeah, those games are definitely not gimmes, but they're also not quite at the level of what those teams are getting in conference play in the B10/12, IMO.

Also, only 2 of those games you just listed (BYU, UVA) were true road games.

None of those we're road games for them though. Except BYu.

But your original question was a great one. I honestly don't know if it's ever happend and it's crazy seeing that many teams just hit the wall.

I think UVA was a roadie too... But yeah hell as was pointed out Baylor was top 10 too and theyve lost 4 of 5. I think that literally half the top 10 from 3 weeks ago is 2-20 since then. Its insane.

Shit, my bad didn't even notice you listed UVA. You're right that was a nice
Road win for Wisco.

Crazy thing about these top 10 teams too is the few wins they have between them recently were all to poor teams and a I believe home games.

Baylor had 0 away games against the RPI top 40 prior to the conference portion of the schedule... since then they are 0-2 against the RPI top 40 on the road.

So for those 5 teams, (adding Baylor) they were a combined 62-1 (0.984) in their noncon schedules and ranked on average 7.8 in the AP poll in Week 9. At that point they had played 1 true road game against an RPI Top 40 team. (1-0)

Since then they have gone 10-19 (0.345) in their conferences including 8 road games against the RPI top 40 on the road where they are (0-8)

We also had a road win over the 16-3 Green Bay team that beat Virginia. People seem to be missing that one as a quality win.

Yeah, that was a solid win. Unfortunately it lacks the name recognition that some other teams have, but it is a quality win nonetheless.

With the exception of Oregon, I think all of the teams being discussed here are still pretty good teams. I wouldn't be surprised to see Ohio State and Wisconsin in the top 15 at the end of the year.

And I think both have as good a shot as SU getting to the Final Four. This conference stuff is crazy. Getting road wins in the B1G has always been close to impossible yet losses at home and on the road have happened to Wisky and tOSU.

Both have issues, but both have coaches that can adjust and play to their strengths. Still a lot of ball left.

At the start of the year I thought if Iowa could take care of home court, and win 3 of the roadies vs Wisky, OSU, Michigan, OSU, Indiana and Minnesota that we would have a good shot to win the B10. Still feel that wat. So far we are taking care of home court and are 1-2 in the 3 road games so far. Need to win 2 of the remaining 3 at MSU, at Indiana and at Minnesota I think.
