Has this been the worst off-season in Bengals history?

Anyone who thinks we're going to make a splash in FA is disillusion. We've established that. However, I think this is the worst off-season in recent memory, and it's flying largely under the radar.

What we've come to expect
- We haven't signed any impact player in FA. Again, this should come as a shock to no one.
- We've let key pieces of our core team walk for no reason.
- We still have $27.5 million in cap room. And NO, we don't need this much to 'sign our draft picks'

What makes this year a little tougher
- We lost both of our coordinators. Say what you will about Gruden, but I think he did a decent job considering the QB limitations we have. Losing Zimmer is a huge blow no matter how you try to spin it.
- We re-upped on an underachieving, and often inept Head Coach.

What would confirm this being the worst in Bengal history
- We're working out a long term deal with Dalton

I think the biggest loss for you guys is Zimmer.

Why you didn't resign your DE, I have no idea. If you have the cap room, you should have.

Your owner has always been a bit cheap.

Up in the 'Burgh I think we have like 1M left in cap room and we're still looking at FA WR's. Don't think we'll get one and we still have to sign our draft picks but we'll do it somehow. I've never sen the logic in being THAT far under the cap.

Like you I'm not sold on Dalton. I look at him and see him as another Romo or Phillips in that he has trouble in the post season.

I think everyone was down on the Bengals in 2011 -- Palmer quit. Most pundits had us as the worst team in football and the only meaningful additions that we made were through the draft..... And most fans didn't have much faith that our draft would work out because we're the Bengals.

Even if this team did nothing (which is what happened), we would still start 2014 as an above average football team. Still a lot of talent on this squad. What's sad is that it wouldn't have taken too much to improve the team and we could have done it..... Mike is happy with another shot at 10-6 and a playoff birth.

I see us finishing 7-9.

yea, Palmer quitting on us was pretty big, Dalton made us forget about Dalton, but we all hoped he could build on it and actually win a playoff game rather than imploding.

I don't think Gruden is all that great, he was trying a lot of things with our offense that just didn't work. We've managed to get by with a variety of DC's through the years, Marvin isn't going to let our defense suck too bad, aside from the man love for Rey M.

9-7 or 10-6 is still doable
1. Dalton and the offense needs to continue to progress, wide receivers sometimes take time to develop too.
2. Whitworth needs to hold up, and we need someone to replace him for when he can't.
3. someone will have to step up on the DL
4. we'll need more depth at CB

If by get by, you mean suck, then I agree.....

The defense was a train wreck before Zimmer got here. Frazier was a disaster and Breshnehan was an even bigger disaster. Hell, the defense wasn't even all that good when Dick LeBeau was around and he's one of the best in the game. I can't think of a time in franchise history the Bengals have had a better 5 year run of defense. And I think it has very little to do with Marvin.

I think this offseason is worse than 2011 just given the much higher expectations. We were supposed to suck in 2011, so the fact that Palmer quit was depressing, but it wasn't supposed to effect the final outcome much.

This offseason on the other hand is unprecedented territory for Brown. We've been to the playoffs 3 years in a row, are loaded with talent in an AFC as bad as it has ever been, and a huge sum of money. So, how did Brown respond? Wrote on stone that he doesn't care about winning. Sure, we could've proceeded business as usual: don't make any major FA signing, rely on the draft, etc. But not only did we do that, but we topped it off with losing 2 of our best players (Collins fits the bill with his effect on our overall o-line) and have replaced them with nobody.

Great. Now I'm depressed.

This is what contributes to it being the worst ever.

The Bengals are a few pieces away from being a legit SB contender. However, when the Pats, the Broncos, Colts, and then in the NFC - 9ers and Seahawks are trying to make themselves even better in FA, we're totally fine doing doing nothing.

Mikeyboy proving again that he doesn't give two shits about winning.
