I was taught the metric system in school in 4th and 5th grade. After two years and a lot of time and work spent - at the beginning of 6th grade we were told nevermind - lets go back to inches.
At least I missed out on "new math" that was taught here for about 10 years then discarded. That was a bit before my time.
