Americans have enough trouble identifying our own states. Asking them to name the Canadian provinces was never going to go well.... but it's funny!

The irony is that I think the majority of Canadians would likely label 40 of the 50 US states correctly (North Eastern states would likely cause the most difficulty - Of course, we have a huge advantage in that we receive all the US channels that provide gooder education).
The other thing I forgot to mention is when there is a big enough story in Canada for the American tv networks to carry, they usually show Canada as one big land mass on the graphic - How tough is it to show the provinces?
