Al Iafrate... what a character. You've got to wonder what kind of numbers and career he would have had if he wasn't busy smoking Marlboros in the locker room and chasing tail until 3:00AM every night before games.

Much like the Weber-Chara discussion, Iafrate had the hardest slapshot in the NHL, but Big Mac had the harder in game slapper. Still, you couldn't pay me to jump in front of an Iafrate one timer.

Wonder what the guy could do with a modern stick.

Yeah, might have had better numbers if he was in better shape, but that was true of a lot of guys from that era and earlier. Conditioning then just wasn't as important or advanced as it is today. Hell, Philadelphia had a drinking team that happened to win a couple Cups!

Well, every game has gone to OT so far this year, with the Caps winning one in OT, the Flyers winning one in OT, and the Flyers winning another in the SO. The latter counts as a point, but in comparing teams, I always look at SO wins/losses as basically ties since it's not a playoff format.

So while people will try to put stock in this series as an indicator (and I believe the Caps will win), I think if the two meet in the postseason, it will be a tight series down to the wire and I wouldn't look to Tuesday as an indicator.

But for now, I'm more worried about just getting through the first round. Caps are rounding in to everything you want from a Cup contender - solid D, improving offense, clutch goaltending. I think we are looking an awful lot like the season arc of teams like Pens/Hawks in recent years. And I think if we get through the first round we will be dangerous. But we have a potentially scary draw for us in round 1 in the Rangers. Last year I said any team but Montreal. This year I'm saying any team but NY. So, I'd like to get that #1 spot to likely face Buffalo or Carolina instead. We'd need a win on Tuesday for that to be possible.

I meant as a playoff game, not between the 2 teams, but the atmosphere....the faster game play....the "in your face" style that both teams will bring trying to get their games tightened up heading into the playoffs.

...and lets not forget they're playing for the coveted number 1 overall with home ice advantage.

These teams almost always play each other tough, so I don't think it will be that different. If there is a message to be sent, I'm sure ours will be... "we're bigger than you!"

Btw, no Ovechkin, Arnott, or Green for us for this one. We're pretty much running two checking lines - so you guys better beat us!
