At this point, I think we have to officially call it a successful month, record wise. Worst-case scenario, 13-16, and think most of us would have begrudgingly taken that at the start of the month.

Now we just need to get healthy. And when that happens, we become a VERY deep team. Can Boch even think about benching Byrd right now? Dude has 3 HR and 11 RBI in about 10 games with the Giants. Does he send Aoki to the bench? Does Pagan and/or Blanco sit? If they do, does Byrd take over CF, or does Pence?

In the infield, how can you possibly sit Superman? Maybe we just go with a 4-man rotation at 2B, SS and 3B? Keep all four fresh?

Of course I'm kidding. The titles are tongue in cheek. The idea is, at this point, for those of us who guessed the Giants would finish August 14-15 would require a loss either to the Cardinals or Dodgers. At this point, I hope that you (and Mays-Fan) had the most accurate guess for August.

A bit more silver-lining talk...

At the beginning of the month, if we knew we would go 3-3 on this home stand, I think we would have been OK with that. And that is before knowing Pence and Panik and Crawford would have been out with injury.

A tough month for sure. Any losing month is. But when you play close to .500 against the best the NL has to offer with basically your AAA team, I think you can count that as a successful month.

Thanks for the perspective. You are right, if I knew that Panik, Pence and Crawford would all be out by the end of the month I may very well have guessed a worse record.
