only 10 years remaining on Rick DiPetros 15 year contract signed in 2006.

its almost over.....

and only 5 years left to finish paying out Yashins buyout..... (The Islanders decided to buy out the remainder of Yashin's contract in June 2007, according to a report in Newsday. The contract was bought out for $17.63 million, or two-thirds of the amount left on the contract. It will be paid out over eight years ($2.2 million a year).

sorry just poking some fun..

Islanders shoot down DiPietro car accident rumour - apparently Rick was in a car accident but it turned out to be False.

imagine Yashin - playing in the KHL most likely making loads of dough and still getting $2.2 M from the Isles per year WOW.

Ironically, The Islanders are actually benefiting from Yashin's buy-out as they strive to hit the cap floor.

well, maybe not the Isles themselves, but the Wang brain trust anyways.

I look at Dipietro's contract this way if he plays this year it's a bonus. If he doesn't it he might have no choice but, to retire. Once he retires his contract won't count against the cap anymore. Besides when the team is simply trying to reach the cap floor a players contract really doesn't matter. This year Yashin's contract counts 4.75 million against the cap. That's more than any player who's actually on the Isles roster. After this season his cap hit goes down to 2.2 million for the remainder of the deal. Which ends after the 2014/2015 season.

I'm not gonna lie every year I secretly hope that Ricky gets better and had a decent season. I remember seeing him playing in the all-star game all mic'd up and listening to how he talked about the game, I thought he sounded like a excited kid who lived to play the game. I can't help but feel bad for a guy who's had that rough of an injury history.

Yashin was a tool though :P

Wang and company are morons for handing out the Yashin And DP contracts, but I feel for DiPietro. He seems like a good guy and showed considerable promise for one year.

It's hard to believe he's already 29 years old.

The Isles will always be the "team the could have been" to me. Chara, a pick that could have been Spezza, Luongo, Jokinen, a pick that could have been Heater, Bertuzzi, and a few more I know I'm forgetting.

Always liked Dipietro. Early on I thought he was going to be a stud, and he was in his brief stint. He also seems like a real good guy. Some people just can't hold up physically however. I am pulling not only for Dipietro but also for the Islanders.
