Is anyone surprised by this ruling? The tight end position has evolved over the years to be more included in the passing game. Just because the position now moves around and lines up in the slot more often, that doesn't make you a wide receiver. It just makes you TE that lined up in the slot.
I pretty much agree here. Saints would be wise to get a contract extension with this dude pretty quickly. He just went from unhappy to pissed. But I agree with the ruling.

Nobody on this thread seems surprised, but there sure were lots of posters who felt Graham would win his case. It may not be over since he can appeal it, but I don't think any thing will change.
If he decides to appeal, he is putting himself potentially in a bad spot. July 15 is the cutoff date for new contracts for players who are franchise tagged. It is likely that his appeal won't be heard or expedited by then because Graham deliberately waited from the application of the tag in late February until the middle of April to file the grievance. So if he files an appeal that will likely not be heard til after July 15, one he may or may not win, he will likely be forced to play the season under the franchise tag. He is then taking a risk of suffering a serious injury & seeing future earnings dwindle.
It's a gamble & risk that he will likely lose one way or another.
If he was wise he have just signed it. I do think that the TE pay should be be bumped up above what it is now but that is another issue. If one wants the WR pay then you make sure you are a WR....not hard really. He could just be a WR in a TE postion.Didn't they already offer him a contract that would have made him the highest paid tight end in the NFL? Something like $10.5 million a year I think. I think he'd be wise to sign it.
