Well this is where GM Belichick sometimes gets in the way of Head Coach Belichick. I mean even if they let him walk in the off season they probably get a 3rd round comp pick with what he would have gotten on the open market so essentially the Patriots moved up maybe 32 spots in the draft? And if I remember right this is a 2018 3rd round pick so any time it is a year later most value it as a draft pick lower so more like that of a 4th round pick. Weird move but may be to the benefit of the Broncos not having to face him.
Yep. The Pats keep making these incredible crazy moves yet keep the peddle to the metal. Crazy....smart so far. :)

I still say today that the move to trade Collins was a mistake. Yes they won a Super Bowl but to me Collins can develop into one of the best defensive players in the entire league. Getting a late 3rd round pick for that type of talent just isn't worth it. Plus they could have gotten a 3rd round pick for him anyway with the contract he just signed.

Well, what it really came down to was the Patriots weren't gonna pay him so they got a 3rd rd pick for him.

Collins is one of the best coverage LB's in the league. I was thrilled when they traded him. They were gonna lose him either way, they won a SB and got a 3rd rd pick for a guy they weren't gonna pay what others were willing to give him, so part of me understands it.

I think some underestimate the value of 3-5 rd pks and over value number 1-2.. Be interesting to find out how many number 3 pks or later in draft in NFL ,are starting or on rosters in last 5 yrs compared to the 1-2 draft picks. I wouldn't be surprised if the 3 and later picks have big edge. My point, a 3rd rd pick IS not chicken feed.:)

Study I read a while back said 3rd wound picks last an average of 2-3 years in the league. 1 and 2nd round picks 5-7 years. This is why Elway missing on 2nd round picks is huge. They are players you expect to be solid starters and will see a 2nd contract somewhere.

To be fair, you need to evaluate whether we "missed" on rd 2 picks, or if we just couldn't afford to sign them, they were injury prone, or just weren't a good fit.

A fair evaluation would be to look at those still playing in the league that we let go for one reason or another. Still playing, then not a "miss".

Franklin was a good pick.
Moore was a disaster after the Baltimore game and bounces around now.
Wolfe I equate to a first round pick since they had him targeted and traded back . Great pick
Brock I think Houston saved Elways' butt here. He has become a joke in the NFL.. I Brock still playing?
Ball - bust
Sly - maybe a good player but not a fit here. Signed a 2nd contract. Good pick.
Latimer - not really lived up to expectations. Should be a starter by now.
Gotsis - who knows. His injury early on last year probably added to his development curve.

Compare this to a great drafting team like Pittsburgh and you see their 2nd round picks form a core .

Rahim Moore has had a weird NFL career.

Rookie- Bad
2nd year- Good (then had the injury late in the year)
3rd year- Great (cept one play)
4th year- back to bad
5th year- Cut by Browns out of NFL for a bit
6th year- With Giants but barely hanging on by a string.

We've see the good, bad and great with him.

Latimer is probably the one that chops me the most.. I had very high hopes and figured he was a pretty safe bet since he caught everything.

Franklin was an ok pick. Wolfe a great pick but saved his career by going to the 3-4, he was looking like a wasted pick until the change on D, which we always knew he fit in a 3-4 better anyway when we selected him.

Ball was just embarrassing, thanks to himself.

Slyvester Williams wasn't a 2nd round pick.
Oops Ty Sammy. Dude had shoulder injuries in college and has been injured since. Can't lift weights to get stronger because of these shoulder injuries.

Awful selection.

This seems to be the draft to try to make up for other drafts.
Henderson for Latimer, Bolles for Ty , Walker for Gotsis? Maybe Gotsis is not a make up for guy just yet.

How funny (in a possibly sad way). I never thought of it that way.

PFF came out with a biggest chance to bust list, and guess who's in the top 10? Yep, Bolles.

I've read somewhere that Crick is on the bubble because of the improvements made by Gotsis so far; hope that's accurate.

Im curious, but what's the chances we get Walker to put on 20-30 pounds and play nose for us, since his lateral movement sucks?

I wouldn't count on Walker putting on that much weight. He doesn't exactly have the frame to add it. HE is pretty maxed out at the moment. Maybe another 5-10 lbs. but not sure that solves his functional strength issue.

Gotsis and Walker to me are 2 very different style of players. Gotsis if he has improved like I am hearing will be more the run down stopper with some added pass rush ability. Walker will be a pass rush specialist only starting out.
