Sandberg came to the mound and told Giles to walk Pedro Alvarez. Giles wanted to pitch to him instead, but lost the argument. Disaster almost followed when Giles walked the next batter to load the bases. After going to a 3-0 count on the next hitter Giles cooled down and struck him out. Sandberg and Giles got into a heated argument on the bench when Giles finished his inning. I have no problem with Giles having confidence in
himself. I love that attitude in a pitcher. The Question is this: Should Sandberg have listened to Giles and let him pitch to Alvarez for a confidence booster, or insist on the intentional walk? With wins not meaning a whole lot at this time, I think he should have given Giles favor. It could have been a lesson for both.
