Gesicki goes for 3 years 25.5 million. The way he talked at the end of the year, I figured he loved playing with Burrow but would be looking to cash in elsewhere. This seems like more than the Bengals wanted to pay, so I have to believe this one was influenced by Burrow. Now, go get Tee done and the dialogue around this offseason starts to shift.

I was surprised by the 3 years more than the cost. I think the $$ is OK, probably a compromise of sorts.

I agree - I think this is a Burrow move, though...one that was designed on keeping him happy until the Chase and Higgins stuff finalizes one way or the other.

I’m honestly stunned. $12 mil up front for a TE is very non Bengal-like.

It’s a good move though. Gesicki was very good last year and is honestly the perfect TE for Burrow.

Now get Tee’s deal done and start working on Chase.

The Bengals are then a right guard away from maybe the best offense in the NFL.

Did you see the contact math? They absorb much more of a cap hit in year one than any other team would.... These assholes know they have like 70 million that needs to be spent to the cap and they are desperate to tell everyone they are cap poor after they sign Chase.

I actually disagree with this part. Bengals cheap as fuck? Indeed.

However, by giving Gesicki more this year where they have more cap, his numbers get cheaper while Higgins and Chase's numbers get bigger. This is just smart cap management in this particular case. The rest of this stuff it can go to hell.

We don't need a 40 million dollar DE on a bottom 5 defense. We can be bottom 5 without a 40 million dollar DE. Let Trey get his trade to an NFC team hopefully, we collect picks, and hopefully Golden knows what he needs.

But - to a point - Browns overpaid for Garrett...because they had no choice. It was wildly overpay, or he was going to sit and force a trade...

It's not smart cap manipulation. The cap goes up every year. By doing this, you cost yourself at least 2-3 million on this year's cap which can be the difference between signing another guy that can help and losing out to another team bidding higher. The only reason a team would do this is because they do not have or do not want to spend cash outside of the cash given to them from the TV deal.

I am seeing this Mike Gesicki | NFL Contracts & Salaries | Spotrac.com

Y1: 7.6m against the cap
Y2: 7.6m
Y3: 10.1m

The bonus gets spread out over the term of the contract. He is getting 12m up front but the bonus part doesn't all count against the cap in Y1. It gets spread out.
