Teams have started to pay more attention to the ends, forcing more 1-1 situations for Atkins.
Atkins had several big pressures/sacks/tackles against the Browns game I was out, and each time I pointed out to my buddy...that was stupid. 1-1 with Atkins is just giving him a sack/pressure/QB hit/Hurry.
I am really glad Atkins is getting more chances, because outside pressure, QB's are used to avoiding for the most part. The part that sets our defensive pressure aside from most good defenses, is if Geno can get his pressure, that is pressure right into the QB's face, which forces him to abandon the original play and start improving in the pocket and on the run. With the speed our front 7, that is a hard task for most QB's in this league.
Geno's pressure is the key to our defensive strength. If it is just left up to the ends, QB's can just step up in the pocket to avoid the pressure and still stay on game plan for that play. Geno is our spark plug and key and Zimmer needs to figure out a way to give Geno more 1-1 coverage more frequently, even if that means blitzing a LB like Maualuga who would come right up the middle and require one of the OL to release off Atkins and get their hands on Maualuga.
