I was reading the preview for tomorrow night's contest between the Devils and the Penguins and apparently Geno's got an undisclosed injury and won't be playing tomorrow. The Penguins will likely also be without Crosby again.

I hope Geno's not hurt for long...

It will be interesting to see what Jordan Staal can do with both Crosby and Malkin out. I've always wondered how he would fare as the #1 center and I guess now we'll see. I suspect he'll do just fine though.

30% of the Penguins' salary will be missing, for what it's worth.

I really hope *and think he will* take full advantage of this opportunity to be the #1 center that night. We will see how well he plays, historically he hasn't gotten many points against the Devils during previous meetings, but that may change as we hopefully will see a fired up Jordan Staal.

If Fleury keeps playing the way he has been, it won't matter a whole hell of a lot.

Fleury and the D-core just need to stay strong. If they can hold the fort, the Pens should still be able to generate goals. Staal is playing great of late, and I suspect that will continue as his role on the team becomes more important. Kunitz has been playing like a man possessed as well.

In seasons past this would have been just about a sure loss for the Pens. With the strength of their D-Corps this year, though, they can compete (in the short term) with both theses guys out.

Shero has done a really nice job putting your team together, IMO.

Historically, he hasn't played this NJ Devils team. I have every confidence that he'll be juuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuust fine.

My best guess is that Jeffrey gets called up tonight. If that's the case, I expect the lines to be something like this.

Kunitz - Letestu - Dupuis
Cooke - Staal - Kennedy
Conner - Jeffrey - Asham
Rupp - Adams - Talbot

Talk about a rough line-up. Wow.

FWIW, it is the same injury that has hobbled Malkin before....the knee.

Now is the time to be careful with the two superstars as the Pens are riding high and not in any worry of dropping far in the standings. You don't need these guys in january. You need them in April.

It's definitely time to take it easy on them. Geno has 'tweaked' his knee multiple times in just watching him play. He's constantly skating around like a mad man and getting tangled with another player or hitting an edge on the ice. In the past few games I've seen him take a tumble awkwardly at least 3 or 4 times.

I completely agree. And they need to let Geno sit for as long as it takes. No more coming back and not being able to play to 100%. The Penguins can play at .500 for a couple weeks, I would think.

Well, to be fair, with his body shape and proportions, most of his falls appear somewhat akward... ;):p
