Feel better about missing this one. Sharks are terrible on the road.
Wingels used his speed to set up Couture twice. Couture wiffed one and Bobs made a good stop on the other. Wingels won three or four board battles that led to three Marleau scoring chances. He used his speed well on the backcheck and there was several times he covered for his linemates being in poor defensive position. Wingels had a good game, not great, but good. He certainly was the least of the Sharks issues this game.
Ok, I will give you that. I personally don't like Wingles on the 2nd line, and feel his style of play is a better fit for the 3rd or 4th lines. Dont get me wrong he wasn't the only player who had a bad/no effort game and I'm sure Todd was sending a message to Thornton, Burns & Havlat in the 3rd for benching them. I just wished we could get a consistant level of play from game to game. Were those 7 straight wins just a mirage or just flat out lucky? These piss poor efforts just piss me off and makes me wanna give up on the dream of watching the Sharks win a cup.
I agree that Wingels is better suited for the 3rd or 4th lines but there is no forward on the team that is better offensively and can play a physical game as well as has the speed and defensive acumen of Wingels. As long as that line is being matched up against other teams top lines Wingels is really the best and pretty much only option to put there.
What bout Torres?? Im sure he's beter offensively & more physical... Not sure bout his speed tho
He would fit but none of Couture, Marleau, or Torres are proficient at playing the right side. If he could play the right side then, yes, I agree he'd be a good option for that line.
Little Joe can play the right side. Move him up & drop TW to the 3rd line. It's amazing how they have only 3 forwards (plus Burns) who shoot righty. Hell, move Boyler to the 2nd line.

Can't break that 3rd line up, drop havlat down to the 2nd line with marleau and coots move Wingels up and see what happens
If they are going to keep matching Marleau against top lines I'd prefer to see a more offensive linemate with Pavelski. Set it up something like:
Couture - Thornton - Burns
Galiardi - Pavelski - Havlat
Torres - Marleau - Wingels
Then whatever combo of Shep, Desi, Gomez, and Burish for the 4th line.
Pavelski is perfect where he is right now in the line up, moving him up to the 2nd line will what little offense the team currently has. Pulling havlat down to the 2nd and moving Dingels up is the best move. Havlat has shown chemistry with both marleau and couture and that line is in desperate need of a set up man that can skate east west with them
Havlat won't work with Marleau if the plan is to keep using him as a shutdown forward matching up against other teams top lines. As long as Thornton, Marleau, and Pavelski are on seperate lines it shouldn't effect his production.
i could care a less about defense its fairly no exsistant at this point anyway, may as well put pucks in the net at a high volume with marginal D
