As was said Vance Joseph of the Bengals was choice number 1. The Broncos called the Bengals and they refused to allow him to come in for an interview for the DC position. Teams are only forced to allow teams to interview a candidate if they are moving up to the Head Coach position so because he was under contract the Bengals could block the deal from happening.
That's right. Forgot about that.

What do you think happens with Vance Joseph after this season ?

He will be free of his obligations with the Bengals - does another team sign him ? .. Wade has another year left on his deal here - it seemed we were pretty high on Joseph, does Elway watch another team ( or The Bengals ) sign him while Wade stays another year ?

I am very please with Wade, and quite frankly I think it would be nuts to go with a DB coach when Wade has done so well this season

I just read the OP and barely scanned the comments because it's just ridiculous to even make any negative judgement or think Denver might go in a different derection with a head coach who has his team sitting at 11-4, playoff berth, still shot at #1 seed, and offense that has gone thru numerous changes/ personnel/schemes/ lack of talent, etc. It's embarrassing to read any negatives about a head coach who has had to deal with such adversity be dissed on any format. The guy should be mentioned in coach of the year discussion as far as I'm concerned. Any bitching about him is just ridiculous and not worthy of debate. What the hell do you want? Perfection in every phase? Maybe a taste of the Browns or Raiders or a dozen or more organizations out there that have failed for years and have gone thru numerous head coaches will take Kubiak off your hands and you can grab Chip Kelly or Rex for starters. Amazing the thought process from some fans/???????:)

Do I need to remind you that Kubiak actually believed that Manning could run the bootleg? A truly great coach understands his limitations. He also plays to his strengths. It took Kubes awhile to compromise with Manning. Our defense bailed us out on a regular basis. Wade Philips should be the one in discussion for coach of the year, that's the kind of difference he's made. He's had a bigger impact on this team than any head coach in the league. Look at what he's done with our front 7 that was full of question marks during the offseason. They're stone cold nasty

The defense is the reason why this team is where it is at. Imagine the losses this team would have had if they didn't bail out Manning with all his turnovers early in the year and how many times the defense came up with a big play for a TD. The only difference now with the offense is now they have a QB that's mobile, stronger arm, hasn't had as many turnovers and can run Kubiak's system much better then Manning can do. The defense has carried this team most of the year and that most likely won't change. If the Broncos can score around 23 ppg in the playoffs I think they will be in good shape with this defense that is finally ran by a real coach and not J.D.R. Don't want to see the Steelers again as well.

Perhaps he could have run it if he wasn't dealing with plantar fasciitis all season ;-)

They way D. Ware was handled this year with his injury - was also masterful. Here the Broncos have a rejuvenated Ware entering the most important part of the season.

In contrast - I think Fox would have had him back on the field earlier, but still beat down.

Well wee saw that last year. D. Ware started out the season on a tear looking like the DPOY honestly. His age though shown through in him playing that 80-85% of the snaps just took it all out of him. He had nothing left at the end of the year. Well we just saw in this last game with him coming up with the huge fumble recovery at the end of the game that he still has plenty left in the tank when we need it most. Kubiak trusts the young guys on the roster to go do their job. He has put both Shane Ray and Barrett out on the field in the biggest moments and they have delivered.

I tend to be an optimist in the off season. Even in the face of all the off season change I was confident in this team and in Kubiak. My best-case scenario prediction was 14-2 with losses to the Chiefs and Steelers. So far I'm not so far off that prediction, though it hasn't gone down nearly the way I expected it would. I did expect the O-line to struggle, but I figured they'd gel by now. It's been a struggle all season, really. Next year we can expect some growing pains too because presumably we will be putting new players back into the line and regrowing it as a unit.

With that said, I'm very pleased with Kubiak. Even though I predicted the Broncos would be as good as 14-2 I stopped short of predicting they'd be a SB contender. I never predict playoff results. I still do not necessarily consider them a contender, though I consider their chances to make the Super Bowl as good as anyone's in the AFC. That may sound like considering them a contender but in my mind it's the difference between claiming they're an obvious favorite and simply acknowledging they have the ability to pull it off.

I am really curious to see how this team performs in the playoffs. If we get beat by a better team or an inferior team having a good day, but we go out K&S rather than that lifeless, disinterested performance against the Colts then I am willing to take a deep breath and look forward to the future of this team.

Let's also remember something about Kubiak: leading into the season there were a lot of prognosticators picking the Chiefs to win the AFC West. Slightly more so than those picking the Broncos. A lot of sports media had written off the Broncos; many of those who picked the Chiefs had the Broncos at 8-8 or 9-7 and out of the playoffs. So while this team is pretty much in the neighborhood I expected they'd be in, and many of us who frequent these pages, the Broncos on a national media and audience level have surpassed a lot of expectations.

Kubiak hasn't been pefect and he never will be. Let's not put too much on a mortal man. I haven't approved of his every decision, but damn it's hard to argue with 11-4 on the heels of a lot of changes, circumstances and setbacks from the day he was hired and throughout the season. In my mind his first year as Broncos HC is already a success.

Great Post Iknow

It's all about how you play in the playoffs.

It's funny - I certainly thought - we were getting coach speak early in the Kubiak regime when the articles flooded through that Kubiak believed in playing young guys during the season and giving the vets rest. Then he insisted on Wednesday's off for the vets - giving reps to the guys that need it. Say what you will about the Oline - one thing for sure - there is no mystery guy left on the bench for vague reasons who is not getting a shot - everyone got snaps. Key guys have been kept out longer - too - it seems than in the past. So the guys that got snaps in training camp were getting snaps during games. This spreads the bumps and bruises and the snaps throughout the organization - everyone is fresher - everyone has a role -and your best guys are ready to play in the playoffs and if they aren't there - guys with real snaps during the season are there.

I like the Overhaul and I like the direction of the Franchise.

I agree Mingo! I also like the fact that the AFC West is becoming a powerhouse division. That will ensure that the Broncos are more than ready for the playoffs (battle tested) when they win the West each year!

Brock Osweiler's play improves with Broncos going uptempo

Good article on what actually works for this offense

"It's something we felt like we needed to do because we had no possessions. In the first half, we had three. I don't know if I've ever been a part of that," Kubiak said. "I think at that time it was just a matter of us doing what we had to do. If we've got to do it again, it's nice to know we can do it well."

And this is what drives me nuts. No Gary, you need to do it because it works, not out of desperation. It's pretty much the only offense that works with your personnel. You are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole, swallow your pride and coach the team to their strengths. That's what you promised when you took over this team. "If we've got to do it again"? Yes, you do. How about from the first drive. Your scheme absolutely sucks for this offense

It helped that offensive coordinator Rick Dennison didn't abandon the running game. The Broncos rushed for 15 yards in their base offense and 98 yards in a blend of no-huddle and shotgun.
From the article. And this hasn't been one game, this is all season. The first Chiefs game. It's the only time Manning has looked somewhat serviceable, and Brock looks even better.
