So if this is indeed the case, then Arya just got lucky that she stabbed at the right spot? And on top of that, the Night King's weak spot was one of the only spots on his abdomen that was not armored?

I think Valyrian steel just kills those fuckers and the showrunners were simply saying that they wanted him to get stabbed there so that there was some parallel or something between his creation and his death.
Unless we see a flashback of Bran telling her where to hide, and how to attack the NK.

It will make Bran's walkabout make sense, and give it purpose.

I think that's unlikely. It just opens up dozens of more questions about the extent of Bran's powers (he can't see the future) and Arya's decision to jump into the meat of the fight and almost die several times if she was supposed to be camping out and waiting for the Night King.

The way the episode played out it makes way more sense that after Arya got trapped in that building and talked to Mel she just sprinted away and ran up to the Night King right in time. And they really could have fixed a lot of the stealth issues with this if she just jumped from some trees instead of from right behind the dude.

HOW THE NIGHT KING SHOULD HAVE DIED:
1. Scene opens with night king and white walkers at the south, Theon and Bran by the weirwood tree to the north.
2. Bran thanks Theon and tells Theon he’s a good man.
3. Theon runs south at the night king with his spear.
4. The night king breaks the spear and thrusts the spear through Theon’s body.
5. Theon collapses just south of some obstruction (wall, fallen tree, rubble, etc), and he fades away to seeming death.
6. Night king and white walkers move north, and surround Bran in a semi circle.
7. Night King stares at Bran and ominously starts to take out his sword to deliver the coup de grace.
SO FAR, PRETTY MUCH THE SAME AS THE ORIGINAL EXCEPT THEON FALLING BEHIND SOME OBSTRUCTION.
8. As the music swells with impending doom, you hear Theon scream “Don’t touch him. I’ll kill you!”
9. The perspective switches to Camera 1. The night king waves his hand instructing the semi circle to open revealing Theon-Alive crawling slowly toward the NK with the broken spear in his hand, the one previously in his chest.
10. Theon-A’s slow crawl and stumble lasts a long time as the scene gathers weight.
— Here, the audience starts thinking if there’s something to the whole Greyjoy “what is dead may never die” thing, or if this is the director’s way to buy time for Jon Snow to make his way to the Godswood.
11. Perspective switches to Camera 2. And we see Theon-A still stumbling and crawling toward NK. But the camera slowly starts backing up. And in backing up, it reveals the obstruction, and then —- Theon-Dead’s body lying lifeless behind the obstruction.
12. Before the audience can figure out what is going on, perspective switches to Camera 1. Theon-A crawls for about 2 more seconds, then in one motion: drops the broken spear, sprints like Usain Bolt, pulls a Valerian steel dagger, and leaps toward the NK.
13. NK catches the dagger arm with one hand and wraps the other hand around Theon-A’s throat.
14. NK smiles, but Theon-A smiles back bigger.
15. Theon-A drops the dagger into his other hand, and stabs the NK.
16. NK starts to die more slowly than in the original, the white walkers explode into thin air, wights explode into thin air all over Winterfell.
17. NK falls to his knees. Theon-A stands before him still holding the dagger in his hand as NK dies.
18. Theon-A rips off his face exposing Arya looking down at the dead Night King.
— This makes the scene more climactic. This is a better use of the face-swapping power than when Arya just out-of-left-field killed the Freys. This better justifies Arya’s season-long training away from the show’s main plot. This actually SHOWS how Arya could get to the NK despite being surrounded by white walkers. This is a better scene. #facelessdeath

This would have been better, I wish it was done that way. As it was, I still was acting like an absolute rube, jumping off my couch and yelling like an idiot.

He can see the future and/or prophecies, but it's not as clear. There are examples of this in his visions on S04E02 and S06E06

ref arya:

when arya and melsandre met. the Red Priestess tells her, “I know you., arya replies, “You said we’d meet again. You said I’d shut many eyes for good and you were right about that, too,” to which Melisandre replies, “Brown eyes, green eyes, and blue eyes.”

she’s already killed Walder Frey and Meryn Trant, both of whom have brown eyes.

cersei and daenerys have green eyes.

I don't recall the specifics, but I guess I do remember something where he's seeing prophecies. Those were pretty vague though.

On the view-ability of the episode....I’m starting to feel there is something to the resolution being brought down on streaming Sunday night. That isn’t including anyone with cable or satellite....I’m not sure what to tell you there.

I watched on HBONow on an iPad in a fully darkened room and it was tough Sunday night. Watched it again last night on the same app, tablet and same room dynamics and it was perfect to me.

Yes, I agree with the point that the eye knows more where to look on second viewing. But even with that it was just brighter and better resolution almost through out.

The major gripe remained the same on I had with the Battle of the Bastards. I get the camera being in the action, for the “I was there” angle. But for me it’s really fucking hard for brain and eye to follow that up close, blurry, warp speed stuff.

At lead the lighting/resolution was much improved on second viewing.

I'll agree with many here that are upset if the NK's death is truly the end of the winter story. I don't think it will be though. There would be too many plots destroyed as many have pointed out. Just like Berik was brought back many times to save Arya, Jon was brought back for something.

I think the real enemy being Cersei is also more smoke screen. It will be important and more important characters will be lost in it but the ultimate battle might come from within group after that battle is won. Or perhaps one of the characters, say Dany, is about to die and in order to keep them alive, Jon, puts dragon glass through her heart. By some turn of events, I'm seeing either Jon, Dany, or maybe even Cersei becoming the new NK/NQ restoring the winter cycle. Least likely I am thinking is Jon though because he was brought back by fire. But the overall result is the reset button is hit on everything.

As a side note. Why doesn't everyone just shove dragon glass in their heart before they die? Or are the COTF and Weirwood trees needed to make this work out right? Benjin had this happen and he didn't lose all that was good within him.

OMG if you have seen it don't post spoilers you bassturd, don't do it, you're a jerk if you do it and I'll tell on you and some flabby stoner bitchcakes will censor your posts! Anyway it's 8.4 coming up, not 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Season 1 was good. The show probably peaked in the late 2nd season or early 3rd.

This season is pretty flat. Write it off to it being the finale, or writing fatigue. The same thing happened with other HBO shows; the Sopranos comes to mind.

This is where I ask for predictions...

GOT must generate a ton of money....

What will HBO do to continue the story?

See, that's actually somewhat interesting and complex. Because of that, you should know that's not what they're going to do. I always predicted Sansa and Tyrion on the throne at the end, mainly because book Dany is pretty damn evil. But Dan and Dave are lazy and just want fan-service. Jon and Dany will rule happily ever after or something similar.

It’s interesting. And it poses a bigger question for me..why must someone become the NK/NQ?

Like if someone like Bran is telling me someone has to take that spot to protect the winter cycle I would ask why....what’s the downside if someone doesn’t.

They just faced the gravest threat to mankind ever, and barely slipped past it (thanks to a Hollywood ending). What could be worse than that, which would necessitate someone taking that spot? Logic would say that the new NK/NQ would just come down some winter with another gravest threat to mankind.

I have a struggle with what could possibly be worse than that if they didn’t replace the NK.
