Don't be a jabroni.
Game day again, season finale. This season seemed to go slow at times but after January seemed to fly by like a train. It's been fun doing these GDTs all season. Game time is 630pm on ESPN again.
All that Cheesecake Factory talk got me craving pasta (they used to have Straw and Hay pasta on the menu about 20-25 years ago, it was my favorite. Then suddenly they took it off the menu about 2003 never to return. Bastards) so I'm making Italian sausage, peppers, onion and mushroom pasta and garlic bread for me and the kids, easy peasy tonight so I can watch the game. Kids were on spring break this week so it was a nice break from running ragged, eating home cooked meals instead of eating out (or DoorDash, that shit is pricy) and being able to watch games in full. That all changes again starting Monday but it was nice.
Some lineup changes expected tonight, Taylor Ward has been recalled and will make his NHL debut tonight at age 27. He's been in Ontario for three years after an NCAA career and is one of Ontario's better players and leaders. He played on a line down there mostly with Helenius and Lee, big line with those three with him being the shortest at 6'2". Plays a similar style of game as those guys but not as physical. Kings had one non-emergency recall left for the season and opted to give a guy who's worked hard a shot. I like to see guys like him and Mallott be rewarded.
Edmundson is set to return so that likely means Moverare sits, Rittich the expected starter tonight. No word on the other guys who didn't play Tuesday (Kopitar, Doughty, Buster, Anderson) but I expect all those guys in except maybe Buster and/or Kopitar. Buster as a precaution maybe, Kopitar for rest. I could also see Buster playing so he doesn't miss 5 days between games which also means he wasn't injured most likely.
Otherwise I expect the same lineup with Ward checking in for Thomas. This will be a tune up game for Doughty and Anderson so Burroughs will sit and Caleb Jones was reassigned to Ontario after filling in for Anderson Tuesday. I also think this is probably Thomas' last game in LA one way or another, they just aren't high on him anymore.
The Flames, what can you say. Gave it a run, eliminated in G81 of their season. Losing to Vegas didn't help but Minnesota and St Louis winning their games would have eliminated them anyway. I'm sure we will see their full squad tonight as they wrap up their season too. I expect CA native and Quick idolee Dustin Wolf in net. He's stated before he chose #32 because of Quick and modeled his game after him having growing up idolizing him and playing for the Junior Kings. He's a solid goalie, he should have a good NHL career.
The Kings have lost both games against Calgary this season in Calgary so tonight is an opportunity to win the last one at home, not only to not get season swept but to go into the playoffs on a high note. You know Calgary will be doing the same thing as they enter the offseason and thinking about how to retool their roster.
They did play some exciting hockey down the stretch, I was hoping a WC spot would be on the line tonight for them because it would force LA to play hard and bring the intensity up a little bit, kind of a playoff type feel game.
With nothing on the line for either team though and a trail mix roster for LA I'm still going LA 3-1 with goals by Kuzmenko against one of his former teams, Dunno and TOTM with an EN. Would love to see Laferriere get on the board so he hits 20 in his second full NHL season.
