Don't be a jabroni.
Game day again, this is the first of four in six nights - compressed schedule for LA. Game time is 730pm on FDS. Not sure what to do for dinner tonight, been swamped with work all day and haven't had a chance to think about it. Going to try and stay low key, I'm working on a trophy case project for Ms. Puck II's HS flag football team's 2025 seniors (6 girls), I thought it would be good to get involved in the planing committee and make custom gifts for the seniors. Yeah, never again.
=)~~
Not much to report except TOTM is a game time decision. Full skate held this morning, Kuemper the expected starter. If TOTM is unable to go again expect Lewis back in with Thomas, Moverare and Burroughs as the scratches. Jill will run the 12/6 again and expect the same otherwise lineup.
Three ex Kings in the Rags coming into town in Brodzinski, Quick and Arty Retardy but only two will be on the active roster tonight. I was hoping to see Quick in net but Shesterkin is the projected starter and Quick will back up. No matter what jersey he wears it's still strange to me to see him in anything but a Kings sweater. Ex Duck Sam Carrick is a bruiser for the Rangers but didn't travel with the team for personal reasons, he can throw, adds some grit, timely scoring now and again and is on the PK unit and is out.
Kaliyev is done for the season with a UBI suffered last week, he finishes his 2025 campaign with 14GP/3G/1A with 11 healthy scratches. Brutal not only on the stat sheet but injured again to finish the season. He caught the ire of Laviolette multiple times in his brief time in NY, saying they needed to see more from his game leading up to those 7 straight scratches. Same crap I've been saying about him for years, he was just not a good pick by LA - specifically his scouting report said he lacks compete level which we saw plenty of (or didn't actually). He's an RFA with arbitration rights this summer, were I him I wouldn't elect, just take a one year prove it deal and see what happens. I joke but if he went to arbitration he'd get a pay deduction not a pay raise. Actually the Rangers may not even MQO him making him a UFA on July 1. Curious to see what they do.
The Rangers are on a three game CA road trip with LA tonight, Anaheim on Friday and SJ on Saturday. They're hanging around the EC PO picture but I don't see them making it, just too dysfunctional and too maany teams to jump. They're one of five teams in the WC2 hunt with Montreal holding that spot down currently (75) but the other four teams have 1-2 games in hand on them. Ottawa is in firm control of WC1 (79) with Tampa at AD3 (85) and TO in AD2 (87) so it'll be a showdown in Florida or Tampa Bay to start for Ottawa. Like I said in the other thread, I'm very curious to see how Stuetzle performs in his first NHL PO series. I'm sure a TO vs Sens ECQF would make Canada go wild.
Back to the Rangers, they're 3-4-3 in their last 10 and were on a three game skid until they beat Vancouver on Saturday. They have a tough schedule the rest of the way with the only bottom feeders being Anaheim, SJ and Philadelphia. The remaining 8 games are against PO bound teams sans the Islanders, who are sitting one point above them fighting for WC2. The Rangers have surprisingly been good on the road since Jan 1, makes no sense. Then again it makes no sense why the Kings are terrible on the road. Just some strange observations.
I'm sure Staples will be full tonight with Ranger fans, never fails but maybe they show some humility knowing they aren't that good this season (this team made the ECFs last year) so hopefully they aren't too obnoxious. Prediction: Kings roll 5-1 with goals by Buster (a real one), Kempe x 2, Dunno and Doughty.
Let's Go Kings!
