Don't be a jabroni.
It's game day, 6pm start on FDS but it's also showing ESPN+. I'll miss this one, we are going to the Pirates Dinner Theater in Buena Park for Pucky Junior II's birthday dinner. Usual family tradition is BJs for birthday dinner but he wasn't feeling it on his actual birthday (12/31) so he wanted to go here. Should be interesting, never been to this but have been to Medieval Times next door for their show and it was good.
Premier matchup today between two of the best teams in the NHL, love how recently home games against big names have been weird starts (3pm, 6pm) to accommodate the EC. STFU and stay up asshats, no wonder you're an ignorant bunch who doesn't know anything about anything west of Detroit.
The Lightning are the league's highest scoring team (3.86 GPG) and the Kings are the third best defensive team (2.54 GAPG) so it should be a chess match. The Lightning aren't slouches defensively either (2.80 GAPG, 10th) but the Kings drop to 12th on offense (3.14 GPG) so it'll take some effort from LA to win this one.
Hagel and Pointe have 57 goals between them, Kopitar/Kempe/Laferriere/Fiala have 57 goals combined (top 4 Kings scorers). Pointe is playing arguably the best hockey of his career and Kucherov is always a threat no matter how much of a classless shirtless drunk dickbag he is.
Pointe alone has 23 goals (T2 in the league) and some may think the Lightning are therefore top heavy but they aren't, guys like Cirrelli (best 3C in the league IMO) and Paul are pitching in too. They're just a good team all around including on defense although Hedman's usual partner Moser is out for another 7-8 weeks on IR. They are a big, mobile team so getting to the net will be tough. I'm expecting Vasilevsky vs Kuemper in net.
Nothing new to report on the Kings, I expect Kuemper to start and Jill to run the 11/7 again. Englund, Thomas and Retardy available if he chooses to go 12/6. Lewis still on IR but he is on the ice. He works hard, is a fan favorite and played his part in the two Cups but no coincidence the Kings started rattling off wins once he was out of the lineup. Veteran or not he just doesn't bring anything anymore to the B6.
It'll be strange to see the Lightning and not see #91 out there, but thats a good thing because he always seemed to burn LA. If the Kings had a decent PP I'd say that could be the difference in a game like this but as we know it stinks, sometimes I wish the Kings would decline the penalty so it's not two minutes of straight up frustration watching them play hot potato around the perimeter.
All in all should be a good game but the 12-2-2 home record takes a hit tonight, 4-2 Lightning. Kings goals by Laferriere and Jeannot who says hi to his former teammates.
Let's Go Kings!
