In an interview with ESPN 980, Colt McCoy was bullish on Ryan Grant and Matt Jones. As to Grant, he reiterated what we do know about him, that being he's got good hands and runs precise routes. But McCoy was predicting he'd have a bigger impact this year. He also intimated -- but didn't say it directly -- that Jones may have a breakout year. Jones is apparently asking more questions and taking coaching better this year.

Anyways, not sure how this will pan out, but if those two guys do step up, Grant could possibly fill Garcon's role in 2017 and we'd have a legit running game with Jones.

Or McCoy could be full of crap.

Who knows? But this should at least provide some hope for two youngsters on our roster.

ryan grant has shown so far that he is a good 4/5 wr . he is entering year 3 so talk of him "replacing " garcon is nonsense at this point . grant has been hyped for 2 off seasons and the play hasnt matched it not that i am mad at grant

jones is in year 2 and he should make a jump

I agree, for the time being, on Grant. He showed some promise in his rookie year then tailed off. Not sure on Jones either. Scot must have an angle that we don't on him.

Ive been a grant fan since he showed up on the Skins dial. Would love to see more of him on the field just don't know if we do. Sounds like Colt was just doing what a good teammate does when asked about those players, but for Jones he better produce early and often and hang on to the ball. RB is an easy replaceable position.

Jones, or should I say the RB situation, worries me. First, jones did not shine last year. He had a few good plays and a couple good games, but he has got to step it up this year just to be considered average. The NFL graveyard is littered with RBs with potential. Second, what if Jones gets hurt? Who do we have that can be our workhorse back? No way Thompson can be an every down back. The rookie we drafted has a history of injuries and never played a full season in college, let alone the NFL. We have no one on the roster today that could fill that bill. This has to be considered our weakest position by far. Even at S we have multiple guys that could step in.

I agree with what your saying but there are many serviceable RB's available after cut downs that filling that role doesn't worry me to much.

Don't disagree, but waiting until the season starts to find your RB isn't great for continuity in the running game. I just have this sense that we will struggle again this year in running the ball, placing extra pressure on KC.

I sure hope he's right, but then again - consider the source.

I don't remember seeing this commented on but I expect like last year the position will be filled by "RB by committee."

I agree with everyone on Grant. Lot of hype early in his career but didn't match his performance. Year 3 is where receivers typically make their jump but there are just too many good players ahead of him.

Ryan Grant = Taylor Jacobs w/o sleeping with the HC of one of your college rivals......allegedly.

I've yet to hear a veteran predict regression for a young teammate, so I wouldn't put much stock in Colt's comments. Grant can be a solid backup, but he's limited by his ordinary athleticism and strength. It's hard to predict greatness for Jones when he never even reached 900 yards rushing in a college season and hasn't shown he can hold onto the ball in the NFL. The guy's got great talent, but he's never done much at any level.
