Just 2 days away. Getting ready to make the drive today. Gotta pack the SUV and we're on our way. Anybody else going?

Sure you could. Go to the actual ceremony and skip the party. Tahoe is what, like 6 hours from Vegas. Game starts at 6 or 7. Wedding ceremonies are usually in the late morning. You can always get things done if you put your mind to it.

Is Frozen Fury in an outside arena? I'm outside Chicago and have never gone.
Plus I recently saw a preseason game on NHL network with Gretzky and Kings vs Rangers outside in Vegas.

Frozen Fury is played at the MGM Gardens Arena at the MGM Hotel in Vegas. Its an indoor arena, probably comparable to the new(er) Citizens Bank arena in Ontario. The footage you saw of the exhibition game with the Kings & Rangers was back in the early 90s (1991 if I'm correct), and yes that was played at an outdoor arena in Vegas. I actually think it was the same arena the MGM has now, but it has since been enclosed from that game back then.

A plague of locus was frozen to death on the ice that night.

...one of these years I will go. Living in Michigan this year though makes it a little difficult. Who knows, maybe this time next year I'll have a job in Las Vegas (one of the markets I'm looking at for a second job), therefore making it easy to go!

It is a fun time. Something every Kings fan should experience at least once in his lifetime if at all possible.

Well if you're going to get all sentimental about it, I can see why you have to go. But if you are all the family she has, she could have scheduled the wedding on a different day.

As for how the game went it was pretty much all Kings early on but after they went up 2-0 they pretty much quit skating and let Colorado back in the game. Once the Avalanche tied it up on a wicked wrist shot from Duchesne just outside the faceoff circle they retightened up the defensive play and got it into overtime where given a 4-on-3 power play they decided to try and set Toffoli up for the hat trick instead of just trying to score and win the game.

The shootout efforts from the Kings were anything but stellar. Kopitar lost the puck off his stick trying to make one last deke. Richards tried a slap shot from the slot and Stoll (where was Toffoli?) decided to try Varlomov's glove side and hit him square in the pocket of his catching glove. MacKinnon got Quick to bite on his deke and roofed one to the top of the net. It's all they needed but what the heck. Didn't the Avalanche win last year's Frozen Fury in a shootout also? The Kings went on to win the Cup. Maybe last night was a good omen.

No one goes to Vegas to watch the Kings win. If it happens then that is fine. People go there to party for a few days and scream for no reason.
My wife says I get the game and she gets a Vegas show( Cirque de Solie) on Friday night.

I don't even go to FF anymore, last time for me was 2007 when I met up with Oxilator and we walked on the Strip stopping for a beer at a few hotels working our way down to the MGM to watch the game. When we get there my dumbass realizes I left my ticket in the glove box of the truck and had to run about 2 miles round trip to where I parked and to get to get back to the MGM for the opening drop. Worked those 5-6 beers off real quick.

It was fun in my earlier years when I was a single party animal, but even then it started to get old for me. Most of the Kings fans that attend are drunk idiots and I'm over that scene. Vegas is general is rough to be in for me these days, although I will be going for my 40th in February with the Mrs. to celebrate with no children. Planning on attending some shows and I am a foodie in Vegas so that's what I do - not a big gambler except for maybe $200 on various slot/video poker machines while having a smoke and sipping a drink and I check out restaurants more than anything.

Buddy of mine has a time share there and hooked us up, pretty sure we will be there Friday-Sun and making the trip back Sunday morning. Nothing like my old trips used to be which would make Vegas proud.

I remember that trip well. I had tears in my eyes from laughing when you took off running back to your truck. We pretty much make it a family trip these days. We stay for the week (have to cut it short this year though due to opening night being so close) at a time share next door to the South Point Casino. I trade my Florida time share in for this one. It's nice. It's what they call a lock-out unit. Actually two identical, separate single units. Full kitchen and the works in both.

The grandkids stay with the great-grandkids in the B unit and Mrs Ox and I along with our daughter get the A unit. Do a lot of family stuff with the kids. Mrs Ox goes next door to the South Point and does a little slot play and bingo and I drive out to Nellis Air Force base and golf. Just got back BTW. This afternoon we'll take the little ones bowling. The South Point has a bowling alley. Right now they're with Mom and Dad at the Circus Circus arcade. We do take in the hockey game but that's more of an excuse to come than anything.

There we were, just enjoying a leisurely stroll down Las Vegas Boulevard dropping in on hotels for beers and then panic mode hit me. Amazingly I was in my seat right after the anthem started, that 4.55 40 in HS as a FS paid off. Of course I was hunched over and catching my breath for the first 5 minutes of the game, but I digress. Bowled over some poor kid on the street too, full blown check into the bushes by Bally's. Sorry kiddo.

Sucked, but I'm pretty sure you guys have more than enjoyed some laughs at my expense over the years with the SNAFUs I have either caused or been a part of.

=)~~

I've just outgrown Vegas as a place of debauchery so I am looking forward to my birthday trip. What you just described sounds like a lot of fun, I wouldn't mind doing that although I don't golf as you know. Just getting older so the body can't recover like it used to and I have evolved into a family man these days.

I generally end up off the Strip and all over the Vegas metro area checking out locals casinos (where you really win) as well as the restaurants that aren't commercialized and run over with idiot tourists.

I think it's too late now because you're probably home, but go check out Lindo Michoacan on Desert Inn Road - some of the best Mexican you will ever have and about 15-20 off the Strip.
