Thread in the main board explains all politics related threads will now be moved there. That doesn’t sound like a bad idea on its face except one poster observed this...

“Respectfully speaking sir....some put it in the sports section because they can comment respectfully there while the PF is a cesspool.....while I don't mind engaging in the PF and rolling around in the mud like a pig in slop...others don't.....that is why they start it where they know they can have a civil convo.....”

Exactly. Admin should let it be.

The irony is that sports and politics have always been intertwined. I mean, all you have to do is look at the history of the Olympics. From Jesse Owens in 1936 in Berlin to John Carlos and Tommie Smith doing the Black Power salute in Mexico City in 1968 to the tragedy in Munich in 1972 to the US boycotting the Moscow Games in 1980 to the Russians returning the favo(u)r at the LA Olympics in 1984. As far as the NHL is concerned, look at the trials and tribulations guys like Fetisov and Fedorov had to survive to escape the Red Army. More recently, the NHL involvement in the Olympics was a decision of business and insurance, but also had political overtones.

Now we have a global pandemic that has essentially shutdown the sporting world (things are slowly starting to come back with no fans except for those lucky people in New Zealand) and we've developed a fine community here at the Hoop to discuss sports, current events, and *gasp* politics. Hopefully, that other thread being moved was just an aberration (although I have a pretty good idea why that specific thread was moved).

Way back in the olden days of the swamp, before most of y'all, there was a group that included comeds, dwon and myself. We'd occasionally hang out on the Blue Jackets board when things got a bit too... ESPY on the main NHL board. Most of the CBJ posters were cool, just stoked to have a team finally and talk hockey. But one dude hated that we'd come by and dare talk about things other than the Blue Jackets on the Blue Jackets board. And let's face it, there wasn't much Blue Jackets to talk about in those days. So that guy threw his fits, reported a bunch of us all the damn time and got into fights with most of us.

A wise, drunkencanadian (who I am still friends with to this day) laid him out one day. Likening the site to a sports bar and the individual boards to tables in said bar. Yeah, it's a common interest that brought you there and still the main reason you are there but you get to know people and talk about more than sports. You pick the table you sit at for the company and decide not to sit at other tables because of the monkeys flinging poo everywhere at those tables. Guy still wouldn't hear it and kept reporting us for being OT. Which led to us all graduating from the University of Maine, while the Blue Jackets board just died with that guy posting stats and responding to himself. Even most of the CBJ board posters followed the crowd to the other table.

man, those mods were the worst. yes, even worse than Dash.
we were all running out of usernames.

I once got banned for discussing the OOTS.
mod didn't know what "Out of Town Scoreboard" was, so banned me just to be safe.
You could send in feedback to the mods. that one was so expletive-laced, I'm surprised it didn't result in an IP lock.

I lost count of the alts I had. The only one that seemed to survive besides my regular one was Snork McGigglepants.

My favorite ban was for a series of posts where I just posted "ESSSPEN NOOOOOOOTSEN".

I argued that it was on topic.

The constant bans for even mentioning TSN always got me too. How was it so horrible to even mention a network partially owned by ESPN that shared programming? It was odd.
