What has happened to Kris Bryant? Since signing his big deal with Colorado two and a half years ago, he has made 6 appearances on the IL, and is about to go on it a 7th time. He has hit .247/.331/.385 since signing that deal, and Coors Field is his home park. Sad to watch such talented players suddenly become AAAA seemingly overnight.

Besides the playoffs for us he was already going down hill. Lucky for us the Giants saw that and didn’t resign him.

He was very pedestrian for us and was showing a bad trajectory with Chicago before we got him.

I agree that is sad to see someone who looked so promising fall off the cliff so early in his career.

I know that many factors can play into why this scenario happens but yet it is still perplexing how very talented players suddenly cannot perform at even an average MLB level.

Wow.

Kinda makes the Giants look prescient.
As a counter point (albeit weak), Davis has an OPS+ of 97. That is better than half of the A's players. I believe he is 8th among their group of hitters in OPS and OPS+. Definitely not their weakest link. My guess - he is getting too much money for the owner's liking.

DFAing him doesn’t solve that problem for them. He signed a MLB deal. He is getting that money regardless.

Unless he gets claimed. That’s the only way the A’s get that money off their books. But he didn’t sign for that much, maybe he will get claimed.

Doesn't he get the money anyway?

We are talking about the A's. They get back the major league minimum by letting him go, assuming someone else signs him once he hits free agency.

He has yet to make the big leagues but it looks like Sandro Fabian has become a decent hitter in the Rangers' system. He is 26 years old now so he is a late bloomer and has gotten buried in an organization full of outfield prospects at the big league level, so it is very possible he won't make the big leagues with them but, nevertheless, I like seeing that he is at least trying to kick the door in.

Glad to see Alvarez getting his shot at the big leagues. He hit really well with Sacramento last year but the Giants didn't seem interested in giving him a chance at the big leagues.

Just saw Kevin Gausman's numbers this year, not good 6-8 4.64

He was pretty great last year I recall but not so much this year

He's been underwhelming for sure but his FIP indicates he is getting screwed a bit by his defense. I could see him reverting to a solid #2 dude by the end of the year.

Don’t remember where I read it but there was some article earlier this year that mentioned something of concern about Gausman. It wasn’t as easily fixable as tipping pitches, it was more concerning like a velo drop or less accuracy on his control. The writer was trying to hint that the production loss could be permanent.
