The Washington Commanders have a strong playoff record against the Detroit Lions, boasting a perfect 3-0 record in their playoff matchups. Here’s a quick rundown of those encounters:
- 1982 NFC Wild Card Game: Washington triumphed over Detroit with a score of 31-7.
- 1991 NFC Championship Game: Washington dominated Detroit with a 41-10 victory, eventually winning Super Bowl XXVI.
- 1999 NFC Wild Card Round: Washington secured a win with a score of 27-13.
Knowing this history the oddsmakers have appointed the Lions as 9.5-point favorites as I post this. Still, I believe that they are dismissing the ascendency of the Commanders, but I will not be as dismissive. To me, this looks a lot like their game against the Bengals who were 7.5-point favorites early in the season with the oddsmakers relying upon the offense heave Bengals and not quite sure what to make of Daniels, Kingsbury, and the not-then-tested or proven Washington offense. The Commanders are now the talk of the league and the surprise entrant of these playoffs and although I believe that their magic ride ends on Saturday, that 9.5-point difference is where the oddsmakers miss, and, it becomes a closer, much more competitive game than they're predicting. Let's take a look at the particulars:
